The day my daughter Alexandra was born, Martha Stewart visited Shadetree—and I had a very good reason for missing her!

Soon afterward, a place for my parents to stay became the inspiration for Shadetree’s first guest suite, The Loft. I’ve paired this excerpt from my memoir, The Color of Magic, with family photographs to share how it all began.

Nestled on a four-acre wooded hilltop in the historic district of St. Francisville, Shadetree holds so many stories and memories for me. I’m delighted to share a closer look at this special place—and perhaps inspire a visit of your own!

Meet Robert Brown, the talented man behind the scenes who helps bring my Full Spectrum Paint colors to life. As he begins a medical leave, I wanted to share this little tribute so he knows how much he means to me and to this work.

Please keep Robert in your thoughts and prayers in the months ahead. Thank you for helping me send encouragement his way.
