Ever wondered what those numbers on your thread label actually mean? 🧵

Here’s the quick cheat sheet:

✨ Weight: The smaller the number, the thicker the thread. (40 wt. is thicker than 50 wt.)
✨ Ply: Tells you how many strands are twisted together.
✨ Tex: A measurement of thread thickness. The higher the number, the thicker the thread.

Do you know the story behind flour sack or feed sack fabric?

In the early-to-mid 1900s (especially the Depression years), flour, sugar, and animal feed came in sturdy cotton sacks. Resourceful women started reusing them for dresses, aprons, curtains, and quilts.

Manufacturers caught on and started printing pretty little florals, dots, and geometrics onto their bags so the women would buy them. The cute little patterns are still loved by quilters today!
