This is my thirteen year old daughter’s bedroom. It is her happy place. And that’s important to me.
⠀
Is your child’s bedroom a happy place?
⠀
I’m going to give you some simple tips to achieve a peaceful and inviting space for your children.
⠀
Declutter. Remove all toys, knick knacks, papers and clutter. We don’t keep toys in bedrooms at our house. We don’t hang onto papers and crafts. (Take a picture or put it in a binder if you think you will miss it.) We minimize the number of clothes in drawers and closets. We have a bin for shoes. Books go on a shelf or in a basket. We don’t do clutter. Have the courage to minimize and dejunk. Open, clean space is happy space.
⠀⠀
Buy solid, neutral bedding. I recommend white. The room will look clean and timeless. Character bedding and crazy colors and patterns are not permitted at our house.
⠀
Paint the walls and ceiling white. Then paint an accent wall. How do you choose a color? Find an accessory for the bed. It can be patterned and colorful. This is where you put your child’s personality into the room. Make sure they love it!! Then choose a color from your accessory, find some paint that matches and paint an accent wall.
⠀
These are fairly simple tips that will make a big impact. If you don’t have beautiful furniture, don’t fret. Keep your eye on Craigslist and shop thrift stores. I got this bed second hand from my sister who found it on Craigslist, for around $30. The night stand came from a thrift store, $5. The chair came from a thrift store, $20 (although I put 20 painstaking hours into recovering it last Christmas.😂) I found the gold polka dots on Etsy, $20. 🏡
