Exciting staffing updates at ArtStart!

Please join us in celebrating Cindy Smith, who has been an invaluable part of ArtStart for 24 years! Cindy started as an administrative assistant and has since done a bit of everything—office management, fundraising, marketing, payroll, and keeping our space running smoothly. She truly embodies the heart of ArtStart. Now, as our community partnerships and collaborations grow, Cindy is stepping into an exciting new role: Director of Programming and Events!

"Working with ArtStart has been one of the best experiences of my life," says Cindy. "It is so rewarding to see the difference we make in the community with children and adults alike. Seeing their smiling faces is priceless. I am grateful to take on this new role ... and I'm excited to welcome Kaitlin Jamieson as our new Program and Events Coordinator!"

Meet our new Program and Events Coordinator, Kaitlin Jamieson! You might already recognize Kaitlin from her work at our ArtScraps store since 2022, but her love for ArtStart goes back to 2020 when she first discovered our virtual Studio A classes and creativity kits. Now, she is stepping into a new role to help us bring even more amazing events to life! Kaitlin is uniquely qualified for this position, bringing an incredible background in both visual arts and environmental science, including 14 years of experience working for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

"I love interacting with the customers and witnessing creativity blossom while giving discarded materials a new life," Kaitlin says. "I’m excited for this new opportunity to combine my passions for art and environmental stewardship in support of ArtStart’s mission!"

We’re excited to be back in downtown St. Paul at the Flint Hills Family Festival this week with a packed lineup of hands-on art activities!

During the week, as a tie-in with the Click Clack Moo school matinees, students collaborated with The Poetry Bus poets to write original pieces for "Poetry on the Hoof," followed by a frame-making workshop with ArtStart artists Heidi Witte and Franny Haight.

Saturday (9am – 4pm): Bring the kids out for free outdoor performances, including our friends at Hijinks Stilts, affordable indoor shows, and public crafting booths. Join ArtStart to craft piano key crowns and Cirque-inspired masks!

We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our community! Your donations of art supplies and reusable items are what keep our programs thriving and our materials affordable.

More info: artstart.org/material-donations

To ensure we can continue to manage the wonderful influx of supplies within our limited storage space, we have a few important notes about our donation process:

🎨 Review guidelines and items we accept: Please check the list on our website before donating. The list reflects the items that artists, educators, and youth most frequently want for their art and craft projects.

🎨 Schedule in advance: All donations must be scheduled ahead of time. Please do not leave donation items outside our building or bring them without an appointment. Please call 651-698-2787 or fill out the form on our website to schedule.

🎨 Check availability: Due to overstock or seasonal programming, there are times when we may temporarily pause scheduling. Currently, the typical wait time for a donation appointment is 2–3 weeks.

🎨 Day-of drop-offs: If you have a scheduled appointment during our store’s open hours, please keep in mind that there may be a short wait while a staff member becomes available to check and accept your items.

Thank you for your patience and for following our donation policy. Your cooperation helps us keep our space organized and our focus on supporting local creativity!
