Smokin' Suckers BBQ

We made the longest trip for a BBQ contest so far for Smokin’ Suckers. Jason had the itch to cook, so he signed up for the SD BBQ Championships in Huron, SD. We meet up with Never Easy BBQ and drove through the night to get there. We heard our name called first in Chicken…not a top 10 or 11th place, but 12th place. Our first wild child BABY!! (Thanks to the 11th place team for not buying in.) We also heard our name called for a 6th place Brisket, which was good enough for 9th place over all! We will take it! Congrats to all who heard their names called!

Welcome to Smokin Suckers News.

Smokin Suckers loaded up late Thursday night for an early departure North to the land of the lakes, Minnesota. We made our way to the Nicollet County Fairgrounds in St. Peter, Minnesota for Minnesota in May BBQ Contest. This is not just a normal competition, it’s a “qualifier” for the BBQ World Cup & Expo. More to come about this program. The Minnesota Barbecue Society hosts this event. The group of volunteers did an outstanding job.
The field consisted of 77 teams, from multiple states and countries to create smoke.
For Smokin Suckers, we showed up focused on task at hand, “to do our best” and have fun. We definitely did that. Up early Saturday morning lighting fires preparing meats for the smokers. Working our way through our cooking process to get our meats turned into judges on time. Getting things packed up and going to awards ceremony.
At the end of the day we only heard our name called for a 5th place chicken. When they were announcing the overall standings we heard our name second to last, Reserve Grand Champion! Completely unexpected but consistency paid off. So the full results are
5th place Chicken
23rd place Ribs
22nd place Pork
12th place Brisket
2nd place Overall

Congratulations to Burnt Trees on the GC and everyone who heard their names called during awards.

Why this contest was so important, The BBQ World Cup. This is a new program that has selected competitions around the world to be qualifying events for the main event in Las Vegas. This program a team has to finish 1st or 2nd overall to secure a spot in the final event. WE are now Qualified. Why is this such a big deal, it’s a chance at a cool Million Dollar Prize.

Welcome to Smokin Suckers News! Smokin Suckers has been lacking on keeping its fans updated on our latest whereabouts. So let’s get everyone up to date.

Smokin Suckers started the 2026 BBQ year off with attending some furthering education bbq classes. Then with total chaos in our daily lives we didn’t find time to execute our educational experience.
We started out our competition season in Altoona, IA at the Iowa State Championship hosted by Joe Osbrink April 3rd. Mother Nature was a big bully. Our performance was not exactly what we hoped for, although we did have fun. We regrouped and headed to Missouri to the Knox County 4-H & FFA Ring of Smoke, hosted by Andre Nixon April 17th.Once again we were bullied by Mother Nature. But we came prepared to fight back. We had an exceptional performance (our best ever) in the KCBS. Our finishing standing were;
Chicken 6th place
Ribs 2nd (tied for 1st)
Pork 21st (need a tutor)
Brisket 4th place
Overall 4th overall

Congratulations to everyone who has participated and had their names called to the stage.
