And 703 days after Hurricane Helene, we finally woke up at HOME 🤎 8.30.26

Not settled, but so very grateful.

Thank you to everyone that helped us get to this point. 🫶 It feels so good to be home. We can’t wait to invite you all over soon(ish) to celebrate and acknowledge all the ways y’all carried us through this season.

There are no cabinet doors, mess everywhere and all I want to do is hang art on the walls and display my cute thrifted & Home Goods Shop + Craft Cafe | Secondhand + Handmade finds. 😂

But truly, it feels so good to be home, mess and all. And I adore that so much of our home will be layered with vintage pieces and handmade items from talented makers that I actually know in real life. 🤎

Those are the items that make a house feel like a home. And I cannot wait to showcase how the Coastal House aesthetic shows up in my personal spaces.

Ready or not, we’re going home.

It honestly feels like everything has been against us from lost sewer lines & water leaks to getting locked out of our storage unit & broken sinks… it’s been a rough couple days/weeks/years.

It won’t be at all like we hoped, but at least we will finally be home.

Drywall fixes, finishing the kitchen, a new driveway, touch up paint, insulation under the house, shower glass… lots still in progress. Lots to still move and clear out of the rental.

But we have water, toilets, power, and beds so let’s go home, shall we?

We’ve started packing up the rental house in preparation for a move home later this month.

Truthfully, it still feels like we’re waiting for a major blow of disappointment. It’s been a loooooong couple years and it’s hard to feel hopeful, but fingers crossed we get to take our kids home.

Thank goodness for Coastal House cause I probably would have cried on the internet a whole lot more over the past couple years without it.

GC says he needs another week 🤞 he gets 1.5 and then we’ve gotta start moving stuff in.

The financials are beyond stressful, but we’re inching towards the finish line.

In an ideal world, paint colors would be selected *after* you have a full design in mind.

You’d pull the paint color from artwork or an area rug, rather than forcing the decor to fit the room color, but sometimes that just isn’t possible and you’ve got to give the GC a paint color.

And honestly, that’s fine. Some of our paint colors were selected based on artwork that will be on the room while others were chosen because I liked the name of it. 😂

Truthfully, it’s just not that serious and paint colors can change if needed.

I didn’t swatch any colors, but I did order larger sample sheets since those tiny squares and online images can be deceiving.

So far I’m loving all the color choices in the space and can’t wait to see them paired with some of our belongings.

What do you want me to share next?! Besides the ongoing day to day wins & disappointments, of course.

1️⃣ Design things (thrift finds, design boards, etc)

2️⃣ What it all cost

3️⃣ The lift company drama

Welp, the financial stress has hit hard as we try to get this rebuild wrapped up this month.

‼️ This is not intended to be a poor me, pity post. It’s the one thing that I feel like I can currently do to try to put us in a better spot. ‼️

With a lift that cost $185k just to get it in the air and numerous unexpected or not quoted expenses (like having to rip out everything including the joists, $18k for stucco, more than $7k for all the plumbing searching efforts, a timeline double what we expected, etc), we are tapped out.

Rent alone has pulled $60k from our budget over the past two years - and that doesn’t include utilities, mortgage, loan payments, etc. 🫠

There’s not much we can do so I’m simply encouraging more people to shop Home Goods Shop + Craft Cafe | Secondhand + Handmade this month 🫶 You will be supporting our family’s efforts to return home as well as supporting numerous other small businesses.

Pop in to craft, tell your friends about us, buy a gift card, shop… every little bit will help.

⭐️ Local Photographers, booking studio time Studio St Pete - Photography Studio also supports our family.

⭐️ Parents, schedule a session with Brent | Traveling Child Photographer & get the best photos (and experience ) while also supporting our family.

*Note: our weekend hotel stay was complementary and was a nice paise before getting thrown back into the stress.
