We paid the final contractor invoice yesterday. 🙌

Yes, we’re paying monthly on a massive disaster loan and yes we have plenty still to purchase for the house and yes there’s landscaping to come and a pool to buy (for the third time 🙄)… BUT having those big, constant invoices for plumbing and lifting and electrical and concrete and all things behind us is such a relief.

We’re hoping we can now start to catch our breath financially and bounce back from a long, expensive journey.

Hurricane Helene devastated our community two years ago today. Flipping back through the photos and videos from that weekend, I’m hit with the all same emotions.

Although we are lucky enough to be back in our house, there are many in our community that are still struggling to get back to normal even two years later.

It’s wild how it feels like a lifetime ago and just moments ago all at once.

I’ve collected so many thrifted and handmade items over the past couple of years and to see them finally on display brings me incredible joy. 🥹

These items aren’t simply things. They are memories of trips with my spouse. They are items made by creative humans that I adore. They are thrift finds discovered with my children. They are gifts from friends.

I’m grateful to be able to slowly turn this house back into our home.

And 703 days after Hurricane Helene, we finally woke up at HOME 🤎 8.30.26

Not settled, but so very grateful.

Thank you to everyone that helped us get to this point. 🫶 It feels so good to be home. We can’t wait to invite you all over soon(ish) to celebrate and acknowledge all the ways y’all carried us through this season.

There are no cabinet doors, mess everywhere and all I want to do is hang art on the walls and display my cute thrifted & Home Goods Shop + Craft Cafe | Secondhand + Handmade finds. 😂

But truly, it feels so good to be home, mess and all. And I adore that so much of our home will be layered with vintage pieces and handmade items from talented makers that I actually know in real life. 🤎

Those are the items that make a house feel like a home. And I cannot wait to showcase how the Coastal House aesthetic shows up in my personal spaces.

Ready or not, we’re going home.

It honestly feels like everything has been against us from lost sewer lines & water leaks to getting locked out of our storage unit & broken sinks… it’s been a rough couple days/weeks/years.

It won’t be at all like we hoped, but at least we will finally be home.

Drywall fixes, finishing the kitchen, a new driveway, touch up paint, insulation under the house, shower glass… lots still in progress. Lots to still move and clear out of the rental.

But we have water, toilets, power, and beds so let’s go home, shall we?
