A look back at the Tour of Remodeled Homes.

We had so much fun dressing up this outdoor living space for fall and sharing it with visitors during the Tour of Remodeled Homes! With its cozy fireplace and inviting atmosphere, it's a wonderful example of how great design can extend the comforts of home outdoors, creating a space to enjoy throughout the seasons.

And we couldn't have asked for better weather! It was a beautiful weekend to welcome visitors, share our work, and enjoy some great conversations.

While Golden Rule is best known for our kitchen, bathroom, and whole-home remodeling, this project was a fun opportunity to showcase another side of what our design-build team can create.

Do you really need a tub in your primary bathroom?

This is one of the most common conversations we have with homeowners when planning a primary bathroom remodel. Do we keep the tub and shower? Replace the tub with a larger walk-in shower? And what if there isn’t another bathtub in the house?

For this particular remodel, our clients knew what mattered most to them: a spacious, beautiful shower and plenty of bathroom storage.

Rather than using valuable square footage for a tub they rarely used, we designed the room around the way they actually live. The result is a large walk-in shower, generous storage, and a primary bathroom that feels comfortable, open and intentional.

Your bathroom vanity should make getting ready easier, not add to the clutter.
When we design a primary bathroom vanity, two things are always high on our list: better storage and better lighting.

Hi, I’m Jillian, owner of Golden Rule Remodeling & Design.
With some new faces finding us here, I thought it might be a good time to introduce myself, our team, and share a little of the story behind Golden Rule.

Our story began more than 50 years ago when our founder, Jack, moved his young family to Salem. An architect with a talent for residential design, Jack wanted to do more than draw beautiful homes. He wanted to see those designs come to life. So he learned the hands-on side of construction, became a licensed contractor, and became one of the early pioneers of bringing design and construction together under one roof in Salem.

I joined Golden Rule in 2005 after attending interior design school and working in custom furniture, decorating, and kitchen and bathroom remodeling. The opportunity to work alongside someone who was both an architect and a contractor was exciting to me. I had found a place where good design wasn’t separate from how something would actually be built.

When Jack retired in 2014, he gave me the opportunity to carry Golden Rule into its next chapter, something I remain incredibly grateful for today.

A lot has changed over the years. We’ve moved, expanded our Design Center, welcomed new team members, and watched styles come and go. But one thing hasn’t changed: we believe the best remodeling experience happens when design and construction work together from the beginning.

And Golden Rule has never been about just one person. ❤️

Swipe through to meet some of the talented people I have the privilege of working alongside every day. Several have been with Golden Rule for more than a decade, and I’m incredibly thankful for the experience, craftsmanship, and care they bring to our clients and their homes.

After 50+ years serving Salem and the Mid-Willamette Valley, we continue to build on what Jack started all those years ago: helping homeowners take an idea, design it well, and bring it to life, while doing business the Golden Rule way.
