Hi Everyone,
Wow, I can't believe it! This Spring I am celebrating
35 years in the Interior Design Industry. What a wonderful journey it's been!
I remember back to when I first began.... My career has included a variety
of relevant work experiences. I worked for several furniture companies in
design consultant and sales capacities... remember Ethan Allen in Groton,
Shafner's in New London and Wayside/ Huffman-Koos in Old Saybrook?
I met so many wonderful people and gained such valuable knowledge from
those experiences. I also created my own design firm. My first one known
as Bennett Associates. I designed many fabulous projects under this business.
Have you even been to the renown Norwich Inn and Spa? I had the privilege to
design the Boutique, Palmcourt Dining area, several offices and conference rooms.
I also had my hand in many of the design decisions for the $4.5 million addition the Salem School in Salem, CT. As time went by, career changes and life events occurred, I eventually developed my second interior design business, Lillian M. Sowalski Interiors, LLC., and today I am still going strong. Under this business I have designed even more
wonderful spaces. One of which I am extremely proud of for its innovative use of "green"
technology, a geo-thermal home. The project was featured in Home Living Connecticut Magazine, WFSB Channel 3 News and NBC News. Most recently I designed the interior for Buon Appetito Ristorante in North Stonington, CT. What a beautiful place this is. You should go here and enjoy the warm Tuscan environment, the delicious fare including pizza from an authentic brick oven and the friendly service. The outdoor patio is now open, and it's lovely. Have lunch with a friend on a warm day and enjoy the natural surroundings, or a romantic evening under the stars with your favorite person. I have also designed the showroom for A Beautiful Company in New London. The showroom features the craftsmanship of the Marku Brothers whose talent lies in stonework, woodwork and painting. In addition custom cabinetry from New England Proprietors is also available. I have gained a lot of knowledge in the design of kitchens and baths. I became a member of the National Kitchen and Bath Association in 2009 and in collaboration with A Beautiful, we create beautiful kitchens, baths and case goods. Among all of these esteemed projects I have designed for a myriad of private residences all around New England and in Florida. Through my journey as a designer I have developed a very important skill.... listening, with this, I am able to discern style choices for clients and help them to achieve the dream interior they desire. Well, here I am... I am so thankful to all of those who have supported me in my journey, family, friends, colleagues, but most of all, my clients. I love the design industry and I hope to have many, many more years serving you!
Fondly,
Lillian
