Last weekend I spent time at an event that has been quietly doing something remarkable for over 25 years.

Trade Secrets is an annual weekend of garden tours and a rare plants sale across Connecticut and New York. What started as a small plant sale at Bunny Williams’ home has grown into one of the most celebrated garden events in the Northeast - and every year, the proceeds go to support , a domestic violence prevention agency serving Northwest Connecticut and surrounding communities for 46 years.

This year I chose to attend as an underwriter - contributing to the event before it opens to the public. A small commitment on my part, but one that helps the organisation plan, prepare and show up fully for the people who need them most.

In 2025 alone, Project SAGE:
→ Supported 800+ people in crisis
→ Answered nearly 2,000 hotline calls
→ Provided 1,400+ nights of emergency shelter
→ Delivered 300+ workshops in schools

Every service they offer is free. Every service is confidential.

As a designer I think about how spaces make people feel every day. A home should be where you feel safest. For too many people it isn’t - and that’s why this work matters.
