Had film installed for summer heat. Does it still do anything in winter?
Straight answer, no sales spin.
THE SUMMER JOB: Reduce solar heat gain. Block infrared. Lower cooling loads.
THE WINTER JOB: Different mechanism entirely.
Low-emissivity films reflect radiant heat from your HVAC back into the room instead of letting it escape through the glass. Most pronounced on single-pane windows. Real, but smaller on double-pane.
THE TWO THINGS THAT DON'T CHANGE:
UV-A is present in January. Same 99% blocked. Interior fading doesn't pause for winter.
Low-angle winter sun creates worse glare than summer in many rooms. East and west exposures especially. Film still handles it.
THE NUANCE ON SOUTH-FACING GLASS:
Solar control film on south-facing windows in cold climates reduces some passive solar gain you might actually want in winter. Worth knowing before assuming the summer install is universally beneficial in January.
Same film. Different season. Still working β just differently than it was in August.
