Last month I finally finished War and Peace. It took me a couple of years, as I would set it aside at times while I read other books. I’m afraid the book itself ended up a little battle worn 🙃 If you are thinking of tackling this tome, I highly recommend listening to the CenterForLit podcast, How to Eat an Elephant. Here’s an excerpt from my newsletter that includes a short summary of my thoughts on this classic:

Beauty in Words - What I'm Reading 📚
I (finally) finished reading Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace - all 1125 pages. His writing skills are genius. Whether it's a battle field, a soiree, or a description of a character, his ability to paint a vivid, intimate picture is unlike anyone I've ever read. And his brutal sarcasm is so much fun. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but I much preferred the narrative sections to the philosophical ones. I think that is why I like Anna Karenina better, as it is all beautiful story with no deep dives into philosophical essays.
