What a genuine pleasure and privilege to welcome Lorissa Marie and the good people from Amber Lantern to Victoria Taylor warehouse today! 🤍

Amber Lantern supports people living with mental illness here in San Antonio and Bexar County, providing supervised living communities and individualized support for their independence, recovery, and quality of life.

I believe deeply that our surroundings matter. Having a comfortable place to sit, art that brings us joy, and thoughtful touches that make a space feel like home can bring warmth to our everyday lives. Everyone deserves that sense of care and belonging.

Today marked the beginning of our donations of art, decor, and furnishings to help make their residents’ homes more comfortable and inviting. Being able to share what we have in support of this mission is deeply meaningful to me, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Please take a moment to learn about Amber Lantern and help bring awareness to the people and purpose behind their work. There is so much good happening in our community that deserves to be seen and supported.

🤔What would you choose?

My husband said I'm not allowed to replace our 9 year-old medium gray tight back sofas (because they're "still good"), but he NEVER said anything about the pillows! And honestly, I still love the shape and structure of the sofas, and they've really held up impressively despite the years of raising multiple (MULTIPLE!) teenagers on them.

One way to balance out the cool undertones is to introduce a little warmth in the form of other layered textiles. It's tempting to go too far in the opposite direction, though. The pillow combination I've been working with for a while has been a warm, nubby 20×20 layered with a patterned 18×18 large neutral houndstooth. Visually, this has worked pretty well because the patterns feature a nice blend of cool and warm tones that pull everything together (in the same way a patterned tie can make sense of a suit and shirt pairing)

The problem is two-fold: First, I like to switch things out every so often. Second, and more importantly, the houndstooth is a wool blend that is unbearably itchy to me. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else, but touching it makes me cringe. (Hello sensory issues!) Obviously I read the reviews before purchasing, but everyone interprets sensory input differently and I tend to be on the extreme end of the spectrum when it comes to that.

So, the search has been on (and off) over the past couple of weeks. Rather than buy and return a bunch of items, I decided to mockup each choice so I could get a better feel for how the tones and textures play together. Making cool and warm tones and varying textures work takes balance and intention, and as you can see, it's easy to miss the mark. I used the product pictures along with the following prompts to help me make my decision:

First: Please add these pillows to a medium gray tight back sofa. Place the leopard print pillow in front of the textured pillow. Do not include any additional generated details to the sofa.

Then: Now replace that patterned pillow with the following pillow, changing nothing else about the image

🤔What do you think I chose?

I had an important breakthrough today that I wanted to share: I have been stressing about admin stuff, tax stuff, logistics stuff, growth stuff, brand protection stuff, and and bunch of other stuff that I am NOT an expert in.

I mean, I didn't start a staging company so I could know about that stuff! I just wanted to use my talents to help people by doing what I truly LOVE. I really thought I would spend my days doing THAT stuff!

But that is just not the reality of business ownership. The reality is that I am uncomfortable MOST of the time because I have to do a bunch of stuff that lies WELL outside my comfort zone on a REGULAR basis. It's hard not to equate incompetence with failure or invalidation.

As someone who has historically sought physical and emotional safety through extreme competence and acquisition of knowledge, this can be very painful to me.

As a hyper-independent oldest daughter of an oldest daughter of immigrant parents who embraced the pursuit of higher education (a standard of performance EXCELLENCE implied, obviously) as a means to make a better life, not knowing something or not being good at something has NEVER felt OK. You can imagine what that does to my ability to ask for help!

Ok, so here's the breakthrough that arrived at 11:11 last night (I'm so serious!):

💡Experts are all around me and exist specifically to fill in my gaps of knowledge or experience. A simple and beautiful exchange of energy in the form of the money I've made from my own knowledge and experience can allow me access to everything I don't have myself. In that way, there is nothing I can't do. In that way, I am always safe and I am always covered. 🤯

So, for now, I will refrain from having a panic attack that feels like a heart attack.

Everything is figureoutable.

All is well.

Deep breath.

All. Is. Well.

✨ Transformation Tuesday ✨

Primary Bathroom Refresh! 🤍
This primary bathroom felt dark, little heavy, with brown tones and dim lighting. With a few simple staging updates, we brightened the space using crisp white towels, clean white accessories, and brighter light bulbs. 🤍

Sometimes, it’s the simplest changes that make the biggest difference! A lighter, fresher look helps the bathroom feel more inviting and allows buyers to better envision themselves in the space.

Small changes. Big impact. ✨

🌵A study worth putting your phone down for!

Here’s a sneak peek at the dedicated study we staged for the new Sharbro Homes model at Nopal Valley!

Rich rust velvet, warm wood, desert artwork, and a little unexpected pattern give this space personality, and plenty of reasons to settle in!

At Victoria Taylor we want buyers to picture more than where their desk will go. We want them to imagine the business they’ll build, the book they’ll finally read, and a corner of home that feels like their own.

And this is just one room!

Spooky season, styled with intention🦇🕸️

When it comes to holiday decor, I tend to keep it simple: Instead of swapping out my whole space, I layered in a few Halloween pieces that work with what I already own. Metal bats (HomeGoods) perched on a branch arrangement and tucked among the shelves, plus rattan spiders (also HomeGoods) crawling across my books and crystals. The look is moody and elevated, spooky not scary.

A few tips if you want to try it at home:
🖤 Start with what you have. Dark shelves, natural textures, crystals, and vintage art already set the mood. Seasonal pieces should feel like an extension of your style, not a takeover.
🖤 Choose a limited palette. Black, natural wood, and neutrals keep it sophisticated. Skip the bright orange and let the textures do the talking.
🖤 Use odd numbers and vary scale. Grouping bats in threes and fives, with a few flying off on their own, creates movement and a more natural look.
🖤 Pick natural materials. Rattan, metal, and branches read as designer, not costume. They also pack away easily and can be reused year after year.
🖤 Edit as you go. One or two statement moments per room beat decorating every surface. Leave space for the eye to rest.
Seasonal decorating is a simple, low-cost way to refresh your home and make it feel special. Even a small touch changes the whole mood.
