There's a particular quiet that comes at the end of a project like this one. Not the quiet of being finished — the quiet of a house that has stopped sounding like a job site and started sounding like a life.

I think about the arches most. How many hours we spent studying scale and sightline, opening by opening, until they felt less designed than remembered — as though the house had simply always had them. I think about the cream of the plaster, tested and retested until it knew how to stay quiet. About the oak, wire-brushed rather than stained, so it could carry warmth instead of shine. None of it was ever about newness. It was about earning the feeling that this house had been loved for generations, in its very first year of being lived in.

The client came to me with one word — farmhouse. What she was actually reaching for turned out to be something else: an old European country home, reimagined for the way her family actually lives now. Room for her boys, her horses, her pets, a guest house for the people she loves to gather. My job was never to hand her a style. It was to listen past the word she used to the life underneath it.

The moment I knew we'd done it wasn't the final photograph. It was hearing that she didn't just like the finished rooms — she felt something in them. I've built a career chasing that feeling — the moment a house stops being a project and starts being a life. This one gave it to me fully, and I don't take that for granted.

With love, always, for the houses that let us in —

Jaimie

The most memorable homes are not built from a single grand gesture. They are built from a hundred small details.

Swipe through five you may have missed.

1. The arches — scale, proportion and sight line studied opening by opening, so each one reads as though it had always been there.

2. The dining room ceiling — wire-brushed oak carried up from the cabinetry into the beams overhead, warmth without weight.

3. Drapery made by hand — hand-stitched headers, weighted hems, so the linen falls the same way in year ten as it did on install day.

4. Hardware left unlacquered — brass and bronze chosen raw, so it patinas where hands land.

5. Lighting sourced one piece at a time — vintage and new fixtures gathered individually rather than ordered as a set, nothing repeating room to room.

These are the details that transform a house into a home.

The most meaningful homes are not simply designed. They are discovered.

When our client first came to us, she described a farmhouse. Her inspiration images leaned traditional — some of them shabby chic — and none of them quite captured her, or the way her family actually lives.

So we listened, and something more refined emerged. A country home inspired by European estates. Rustic authenticity meeting modern sophistication. Room for family, for entertaining, for beloved pets, for an equestrian life.

The goal was never a home that looked old. It was a home that felt like it had a
history.

Everything followed from that. Arches studied for scale, proportion and rhythm, so
they read as though they had always existed in the architecture. Oak wire-brushed for texture rather than stained for colour, carried up into the dining ceiling and beams. Soft cream plaster as the quiet backdrop that lets stone, textiles and antiques be the focus. Reclaimed hardwood, limestone, wax-finished natural stone, zellige and bejmat set by hand.

In the primary bath, a sculptural marble soaking tub that makes the room feel discovered rather than built. In the dressing room, antique French doors and a
hand-painted eglomisé-inspired vanity — proof that the everyday rooms can be the most personal ones.

A home with an old soul, made for the way this family lives now.

🌟Le Petit Winter Marché🌟
We are excited to introduce in our next vendor spotlight for Le Petit Winter Marché! Nicolas van Krijdt is a French metal artist who transforms raw materials into lyrical scenes of Parisian streets and pastoral France. His work captures the romance of everyday French life through intricate craftsmanship, creating sculptures that feel both nostalgic and timeless.

Originally inspired by the architecture, charm, and quiet beauty of his surroundings, Nicolas began shaping metal and other materials into expressive vignettes that blend fine art with storytelling. Each piece reflects his keen eye for detail and his ability to turn the ordinary into the extraordinary.

Join us to see the stunning handcrafted metal artworks he will be bringing to Le Petit Winter Marché. 🎁

Feeling extra grateful this Thanksgiving. 🤍
This month also marks 15 years of JBID- such a wild, beautiful journey. Through the highs, the challenges, and my own long road back to health, I’m so thankful to be feeling better every day. Here’s to healing, growth, and the people who’ve been part of this path. 🥂✨
Happy to be spending this Thanksgiving with my family at my Aunt & Uncles in Fair Oaks!🍁
