Behind The Design

Our studio is where we gather with clients, spread out the samples, and start bringing a space to life. Fabrics, tile, rugs, custom pillows, artwork, accessories, and plenty more are always within reach, thanks to the incredible vendors and makers we’re fortunate to work with.

Some of our best ideas begin right here, around the table, building flat lays, comparing finishes and finding those unexpected combinations that make a home feel personal. We love welcoming clients into the studio and making them part of the process from the very beginning.

Where to invest vs. where to save?

I always encourage my clients to invest in the pieces that make the biggest impact on how a home looks, feels, and functions. Thoughtful lighting, custom window treatments, beautifully crafted millwork, and a sofa designed for the space are details you’ll appreciate every day and for years to come.

When it comes to decorative accents and trend-driven pieces, that’s where I’m more inclined to save. Those are the layers that can evolve with you, and sometimes a small change is all it takes to make a room feel new again.

Anatomy of a Space | Talega Kitchen

Classic East Coast style meets California coastal living in this Talega kitchen.

We started with timeless cabinetry and a crisp palette of blue and white, then layered in subtle coastal references, like the rope detailing on the lighting, without letting the space feel overly themed. Dark wood floors ground the lighter palette and bring in that traditional East Coast character we wanted.

Integrated appliances, a custom range hood, and thoughtful cabinetry details give the kitchen a tailored, seamless finish while making it distinctly personal to our clients.

The result feels coastal, but still classic. A kitchen designed to look just as good years from now as it does today.

Small Room. Big Personality.

Powder rooms and secondary bathrooms are some of our favorite spaces to design because you can have a little more fun.

With less square footage and typically less daily wear, there’s more freedom to make unexpected choices. A statement stone. Bold plumbing fixtures. Dramatic lighting. Wallpaper you might not commit to in a larger room.

And because you need less material, it can also be the perfect place to splurge on something really special.

Small spaces don’t have to play it safe. In fact, we think they’re one of the best places to let your personality show.

Why Every Room Needs a Touch of Black

One of the easiest ways to give a room more depth is to add a little black.
It creates contrast, gives the eye somewhere to land, and helps break up softer, more neutral spaces.

Sometimes it’s as simple as a mirror frame, a light fixture, hardware, or a small accent piece. Other times, it can become a stronger design moment.

The key is that it doesn’t have to be heavy to have an impact.

A touch of black adds structure, boldness, and balance. It’s one of those small details that can make a room feel much more considered.

California Living

One of the things we love most about designing in California is the opportunity to blur the line between indoors and out.

Whenever we can, we look for ways to extend the living space beyond four walls. Telescoping doors disappear. French doors open wide. Natural light and fresh air move freely through the home. In some projects, like our Encinitas residence, the outdoor dining area becomes a true California room, designed to feel every bit as considered and comfortable as the spaces inside.

And when outdoor square footage is limited, we find other ways to create that connection through expansive windows, abundant natural light and an openness that lets the outside in.

Every home is different, but the idea remains the same: make the most of the way we get to live in California.

Design Details We Love | Newport Heights

Our clients wanted their primary bathroom to feel bold, glamorous and completely their own, so we leaned all the way in.

A striking palette of white, black, and gold sets the tone, layered with custom quartz, cabinetry built precisely around the stone, brass inlay, an illuminated mirror, statement lighting and marble mosaic floors.

The finished space may look effortless, but details like these require an incredible amount of collaboration behind the scenes. From designer to contractor to fabricator, every measurement and material had to come together just right.

That’s the beauty of custom design. It’s all in the details.
