Got a dull room that you can't fully make over? Try just adding colorful furniture, drapes, artwork to draw the eye away from the faded paper or boring paint, especially if the room has a stunning feature you don't want to change like this dramatic wainscoting. This was a bonus room in my very old house, probably a pantry or breakfast room given the era of the original construction. I'd been using it for storage and recycling. I found the table on the street with a "free" sign and when I told the owner I'd grabbed it, he offered the four chairs (not an exact style match, but whatever). I originally thought to strip and stain them but ended up going with colorful paint. The curtains were my old kitchen curtains from a previous house and the other decor was pulled from other parts of the house. You don't have to go into bankruptcy to make a room useable and delightful!
