A flipped house. White shaker. Gray counters.
Our clients wanted warmth.

New cabinetry. Brushed brass.
A 10-by-5-foot island with room for dinner prep and homework at the same time.

The garage became a primary suite, a laundry room and a walk-in pantry.

Natural stone countertops that bring beautiful texture and character to the space.

There’s no greater compliment than a client who comes back to us again and again.

We first worked together on their family home in Sedona, and years later, they trusted us with another incredibly personal project: their parents’ home in Coronado.

Beautiful design is always the goal, but being a trusted partner through the entire process, especially when the unexpected comes up, is just as important to us.

We’re incredibly grateful for clients who invite us into their homes, their families, and then invite us back again.

Same kitchen. Very different story.

We traded the cool white finishes for rich wood cabinetry, warm stone, aged brass and layers of texture that completely changed the way this space feels.

Turns out, designing is only part of running a design firm.

Today we joined ASID’s Emerging Professionals to talk about what it really takes to start and grow an interior design business. We covered some of the things we’ve learned along the way, from setting up the business and establishing best practices to building a team, finding clients and figuring out all the things no one teaches you in design school.

It was especially fun to look back at how much we’ve learned since starting Élan and share some of those lessons with the next generation of designers.

Alison and Kilian came to design from very different places, and it’s been one of our greatest strengths.

One brought a deep background in construction and architectural detailing. The other spent years immersed in high-end residential, hospitality, furnishings and decorating. Five years into building Élan together, those different perspectives continue to shape how we work, and we’re leaning into collaboration more than ever.

They sat down with Design in the Media to talk about how Élan started, what they’ve learned along the way, the projects and people we want to work with, and what this next chapter looks like for our studio.

And yes, “we don’t want to work with jerks” made the final edit!
