A rare survivor that required responsible intervention!
Before & After — 18th Century Italian Fauteuil
This Venetian fauteuil arrived with a collapsed seat frame, compromised joinery, and centuries of accumulated fatigue. The original polychrome surface, though worn, remained intact — a rare survival worthy of preservation.
Our approach was conservation, not reinvention.
• Structural reconstruction of the seat rail�• Stabilization of original gesso and paint�• Respectful upholstery in silk damask appropriate to period�• No over-restoration. No loss of patina.
The goal is never to make an antique look new.�The goal is to ensure it survives another century.
Crafted in the 18th century. Stewarded in the 21st.
