The primary bedroom at was a huge transformation! Swipe to see what the space looked like before and in case you're wondering, access to the water heater was moved to the garage. It is now a colorful and spacious haven for our client to relax in and enjoy panoramic views of the San Francisco hills straight from their bedroom windows.⁠

We love coming back home and lighting the fireplace after a cold night, especially after Sunday night's trick o' treating! Who else did the same thing? I love this time of year!! Creating a comfortable and inviting living room was our main goal at ⁠. One thing we did, which I'm so glad I fought for, was turning our existing wood burning fireplace into a gas fireplace with a ceramic log insert. Forget chopping wood. Who has time for that? The fire is controlled by a remote control. It's the perfect instant inviting ambiance. 😉 I wanted a clean minimal look, so we built out our existing fireplace facade and added plaster by Plaster Artisans, and steel detailing at the new opening. I used steel because it's a clean look, but it's also a fireproof material. I then painted the existing and new hearth fire brick with a black (fireproof paint) for a clean transition between the different materials. I love how it turned out. Highly recommend keeping that wood burning fireplace if you can! I much prefer this look over a glass insert any day!!⁠

Another fun fact! The kitchen was originally completely closed off from the living and dining room, and as a family with young kids, it was important to have them opened up as a central place for our family to gather.⁠⁠

Crazily, losing wall space actually created more functional storage. We did this with a full wall of custom cabinetry that not only conceals a full-sized fridge, but also houses all of the large appliances.⁠ We gained additional storage at the island and at the upper most cabinets by raising the ceiling by a foot! ⁠⁠

Involving your kids in the design process is no easy feat. My daughter's love for horses gave me a great starting point. I'm not a fan of overly themed or branded rooms, (ie: Star Wars or Disney bedding), but instead, go for a more timeless approach that will grow with the kids. Personality and texture are a go to for all rooms we design, and although wallpaper seems faddish, it is one place that is an easy starting point for both. Giving options to your kids allows them to feel involved, yet not overwhelmed. Amelia helped pick out a wallpaper that has a horse motif disguised in the pattern and we paired it with equestrian-themed artwork to match. We also added built-in cabinetry so she can display her most treasured mementos. While kids' interests change so much, the neutral and classic design of the millwork will grow with her. ⁠🙌⁠

A colorful geometric take for my kids' bathroom! To keep the design flow throughout, we commissioned a shower curtain in the same pattern as the wallpaper and kept the height of the curtain floor to ceiling to reinforce the height of the room.
