One of our design secrets for creating effortlessly modern looks is working with the more nuanced parallels between the artwork and the framing.

There’s often a tendency to build on the obvious, for example, looking to match a dominant color. While that approach certainly has its place and effect, drawing from the more subtle tones creates greater depth and intricacy.

With this original landscape by artist Nazarii Medvid, our client wanted a gold float frame. However, the true beauty of this design lies in the dark red wash along the side of the frame. It beautifully reflects the red-toned blacks within the painting. Considering that black paint almost always leans in a tonal direction (as achieving a true black requires a perfectly balanced paint mixture), this is a particularly delectable color pairing.

Plus, who doesn’t love a gold-leafed frame?

We stretched and framed this original, abstract painting by artist Nazarii Medvid in one of the most naturally dynamic collections we offer, the Raku collection.

The amber orange color way with bursts of bright copper combined with subdued blues, greens, and browns lended itself to the more dominant colors in the piece. The organic movement of the copper leafing and oxidized lowlights paralleled the artists abstract aesthetic.

The variegated color profile in the leafing and the dark blue base made Spark Frames “Dusk” a complex yet perfect frame for this James Jean print titled Lotus War Pyramid.

This piece is definitely one to study in detail, so framing it with a detailed, handmade frame was the way to go. Thank you to our return client, who always chooses fun combinations. 💙

As recommended, this piece is glazed with Museum glass for clarity and protection.

We knew a solid cherry frame would be a beautiful color choice with the bright greens, oranges, and reds in this piece titled “Barton Springs, Deep Summer” by artist

Our clients not only agreed but went for this exquisite curved, and splined solid cherry design. It turned out looking really beautiful and takes your right into the nostalgia of the piece.

This is a limited archival print from We covered with Optium Museum Acrylic for the best look, protection of the bold colors, and to keep the framework as lightweight as possible.

We had so much fun expanding on the character of this painting by artist from gallery

Our repeat client has such great vision, and we often design with a lot of twists and turns of different combinations before we land on what creates the right mood.

In this process, we were resolved on the unintentional feel of carving and chose the crimson red from a variety of color options. However, we still needed to choose the perfect matboard. A neutral would always work, but we put down the tweed and instantly knew, that was the one to bring the piece to life.

We want to encourage everyone to feel comfortable with pushing the envelope while they are at the design table. We will gladly guide the process, and regardless of where we land with the final design, it expands your own sense for design resulting in a new found connection with your artwork.

Our client brought this lovely oil painting on canvas needing the design to be nearly 6” wide to fill a specific space on the wall. Unlike works of art on paper, we couldn’t rely on a wide matboard, so we either needed a extra wide moulding, a stack of multiple frames, or what we ultimately did was create a combination with an interior moulding, liner (fabric covered moulding) and ornate moulding.

After going through many possibilities, this one created a traditional and stunning balance. The sweeping motif complimented the wings of the swan with a dark blue clay peaking out to reveal a matching color. The midnight blue linen liner acted as a dramatic neutral. Paired with an ornate fillet with red clay, the warm and cool colors were both reflected in the framework.

We love working with the traditional design that liners provide and offer over 100 options for colors and textures in both linen and silks. We hope you love this classic look as much as we do!

We love the new ebony variations by , and “The Fast Times” corner blocks was a delightful match to Tanjiro Kamado’ haori. Our clients didn’t have too much of a choice on this frame, but we did enjoy choosing a fun, complimentary matboard to go with. 🖤💚

One of the most important, subtle details we coach is color relativity. Because our perception of a color is influenced by surrounding colors, it is critical to make choices that amplify the artwork.

However, we chose to have a sample made with competing colors to show how one can use color relativity in an unexpected way. This custom painted, welded steel sample combined lilac, gunmetal, and burnt orange in such a way to make the colors appear to glow.

We were thrilled to use it in a perfect way with this piece.

The welded steel frames by can be made using any color blend, but we have over 18 swatches to mix and match. They can be used in many contexts from rustic, industrial, to modern.

Our clients wanted a bold frame choice for this painting by one of their grandmothers.

We were excited to land on the Groove carving from Woodworks Imagery. Even the more minimal designs from Woodworks Imagery show an attention to craft and quality, but the more complex carvings are truly incredible. This carving comes in a variety of stain options. For this piece, we chose a medium brown to maintain an earthy context while allowing the brighter colors to pop.

Beautiful blend of soft, color, and organic shapes.

are all made by hand with a stunning set of signature color blends. The sage green of the Verbana complimented the natural scene of this Hozier concert poster. Layering the royal purple mat with the subtle orange highlights of the Verbana profile built depth and dynamic through color.
