A little California casual, a little French aristocracy… and a dash of Michael Taylor magic. In the living room of my Montecito bungalow, an 18th-century Louis XVI giltwood pier glass mirror from Michael’s estate presides over an easy mix of crisp white slipcovers , blue-and-white pottery and batik textiles, and assorted well-loved treasures.

A little basket case? Guilty as charged! My Montecito bungalow kitchen takes a playful cue from Bunny Mellon’s legendary basket room at Oak Spring Farm. Woven treasures tucked above the cabinetry, sun-washed wood, and a dash of blue and white lend this hardworking space a decidedly relaxed charm. After all, a kitchen should be as delightful to look at as it is to cook in. And one can never have too many baskets!
