🐛 Who says there are no plant emergencies?!
Meet Biggie, Middie and Wee One. Last Friday we got an urgent call from Yvette in South San Francisco. A floral bouquet she received included milkweed - and unbeknownst to her, three little hitchhikers - Western Monarch Butterfly caterpillars.
Turns out “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” was based on a true story, and these three little munchkins were quickly comping their way through the bouquet.
Yvette needed some native milkweed stat if she was going to keep her new many-footed friends in good health, so she found our number and the die was cast. We quickly pulled together a few of our bushiest Asclepias fascicularis - or Narrow Leaf Milkweed, gave our best “Help is on the way!” Mrs. Doubtfire yell, and headed off to South City (fully obeying the speed limit, because those Colma and SSF police don’t play).
At first, Yvette thought Biggie wasn’t taking to the new snacks, but it turns out Biggie was just ready to go through the change, and while Yvette was at the grocery, went into full-on metamorphosis mode. Behold the Biggie chrysalis!
We’re excited to follow along as Biggie, Middie and Wee One transform into the beautiful butterflies we all knew they could be (and without even reading a single self-help book).
Thanks Yvette, for giving us a call, keeping us posted and letting us share this fantastically fun story with our friends on social media. 🐛🌱❤️
