I get asked all the time what I actually do as an interior designer—so here’s a glimpse into a typical day.
Wake up (6:15AM usually) Check email.
Not every designer runs their business this way, but I don’t believe in barriers with clients.
I’ve responded to texts at 11pm and Saturday mornings at 9am—because while this is my job, for my clients, designing their home happens outside of theirs.
So I make myself available. Morning routine—shower, breakfast, get dressed, workout—checking emails in between.
Then the day really begins:
Site visits, client meetings, vendor appointments, or board meetings—no two days look the same.
In between? Checking email.
Off to the office. More email.
Reviewing client trays (how we build out schemes—materials, finishes, inspiration).
Sourcing through the library. More email.
A quick check on my steps—if I haven’t hit 10,000, I’m outside walking with my phone, still working.
Calls with vendors.
Following up on outstanding items. Responding to emails. Designing, sourcing, paperwork.
Evenings might be dinner with friends or an industry event— and then home… for (you guessed it) more email.
While ultimately my job is about creating spaces that feel layered, thoughtful, and timeless- finding fun ways to use wallpaper, texture, and custom details which requires sourcing, designing in CAD, or refining every last detail— you can safely assume I’m checking email.
