In Japan, farmers are reviving an ancient eco-friendly practice by using duck armies instead of pesticides in rice fields. These ducks roam freely among the crops, eating harmful insects, snails, and weeds that threaten the harvest. As they swim and move through the paddies, their droppings naturally fertilize the soil, enriching it with nutrients.

This method, known as “aigamo farming,” eliminates the need for chemical pesticides and fertilizers, making it healthier for both the environment and consumers. The ducks also stir the water with their movement, preventing weeds from taking root and improving oxygen levels for the rice plants.

By blending tradition with sustainability, Japanese farmers are proving that nature itself can be the best pest control.
