“My Mom Would Be Proud of Me”
Embroidery by Blaize Wilkinson

Friday, May 1, 2026; 6pm - 9pm

This month we will feature new works from one of our long-time collective members and dearest friends, Blaize Wilkinson.

“My mother was a guild-certified Master Embroiderer; I am not. She died almost two years ago, and these works are not about grief, but also aren’t not about grief. They represent things I find interesting, including time, geology, archeology, human labor, and the natural world. I don’t think my mom would understand what I’m trying to do, and it’s also obscure to me, but I think she would have liked the work itself.”

Join us for a First Friday open house at The Fábrica! Friday 3/6 6-9pm. This month will feature “Greasy Leaves”, a collection of mixed print media works by Hunter Wedaa.

“How art is understood can change drastically based on the kinds of materials and methods used in the artistic process. Living in a world with increasingly limited resources means using our materials with great care. Using natural dyes, ecoprints, lithographs, and silkscreen printing Hunter creates a dialogue centered around materials that are “good” or “bad” for the environment: the rich blacks from grease-based lithography, the natural colors from plant dyes, as well as the versatility and vibrancy of silkscreen printing. All of these materials and methods combine to create a provocative conversation about resource availability and what it means to be an artist who uses natural materials.

Hunter Wedaa (she/her) is a multi media artist located in Santa Cruz. She mainly works with lithography, silkscreen printing, sewing, and natural dyes to create works that reference the natural world in ways that juxtapose and complement each other through combing different mediums. She works mainly on fabric and paper, and aims to push the scale of size whenever she can to make pieces that capture viewers.”
