7 powerful lessons from the book "Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life"

1. Find Your Ikigai: Ikigai is your reason for being, your purpose in life. It's the intersection of what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. Finding your ikigai gives you a sense of direction and purpose, leading to a more fulfilling life.

2. Stay Active, Don't Retire: The Okinawans, known for their longevity, don't believe in retirement. They continue to engage in activities they love, even after their "official" retirement age. Staying active keeps your mind sharp, your body healthy, and your spirit alive.

3.Take It Slow: Rushing through life can lead to stress and anxiety. The Okinawans practice a slower pace of life, savoring each moment and enjoying the simple pleasures. This helps them reduce stress and live a more balanced life.

4. Eat Moderately: The Okinawans follow the 80% rule, meaning they stop eating when they are 80% full. This helps them maintain a healthy weight and avoid overeating, which can lead to various health problems.

5. Build Strong Relationships: Social connections are crucial for a long and happy life. The Okinawans value strong relationships with family and friends. Spending time with loved ones reduces stress and promotes overall well-being.

6. Embrace Wabi-Sabi: Wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy that appreciates the beauty of imperfection and transience. Embracing this philosophy can help you find peace and contentment in your life, even in the face of challenges.

7. Practice Gentle Exercise: The Okinawans don't engage in intense workouts. Instead, they prefer gentle exercises like walking, gardening, and tai chi. These activities help them stay active and healthy without putting too much stress on their bodies.

After a period of reflection, I've rekindled my passion for Japanese Antiques and eagerly anticipate sharing a beautiful selection of items with customers, both familiar and new, and embracing this new chapter. Lisa
