Since 1998, March Studio’s constant vision and passion, in both our teaching and our practice, is to combine the principles of good design with the best practices in marketing to create branded architecture with purpose. The result is something boldly innovative: beautiful, functional buildings and spaces that tell our clients’ stories, by capturing the essence of who they truly are. Brand is the starting point. It both inspires us and guides us. It helps us to understand whom we are designing for and what’s important to them. The brand helps us to create meaning and purpose in the design. It informs what we are doing, how we are doing it, and why. We value our relationships and believe in a fully collaborative effort that leads to buildings and environments that help to fulfill our clients’ purpose. It is our intention that the spaces we create and the connections we foster will inspire creative collaborations and visionary ideas that add value to the architecture, the brand, and the community.

A little change of scenery for our weekly team meeting. ☕️

Todd, Marisol and Schuyler took their meeting to a coffee shop in Silver Lake, where they were joined by a very special guest: Sid!

Fresh off his first birthday on September 25, Sid was alert, curious and fully engaged in the conversation (or at least everything happening around him!).

A lovely reminder that sometimes the youngest people in the room bring the most unexpected inspiration. 💛

A little learning, good conversation and some w**e and cheese at the March Studio office. 🍷

We recently welcomed Tibbie Dunbar, Hon. AIA/LA, from Henrybuilt for an evening exploring their work in kitchens and millwork, and the craft, materials and innovation behind it.

Tibbie and Todd go back many years to her time leading the A+D Museum in Los Angeles, so it was especially nice to welcome her into our studio and bring together friends from several Westside architecture and design practices for the evening.

Thank you to Tibbie for sharing her knowledge so generously, and to everyone who joined us. We’re already looking forward to seeing more of Henrybuilt’s work firsthand at their Downtown LA showroom.

Another milestone at Friends St. 🏗️

This home is being rebuilt after the fires, making every stage of construction especially meaningful. Wall framing is now complete, the roof is nearly finished and drywall will be going up soon.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll move into finishes and start seeing the character of the home emerge beyond the structure.

There’s still work ahead, but we’re getting close.

We can’t wait to share the finished home and see this family return to a place that feels like theirs again.

How much of a city do we actually notice when we experience it from behind a windshield?

Back in 2013, for the Windshield Perspective project, March Studio studied a stretch of Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles, looking more closely at the architecture, history, communities and everyday details that can disappear when we’re simply passing through.

The project transformed those observations into an exhibition at the A+D Architecture and Design Museum, inviting visitors to slow down and see a familiar Los Angeles streetscape from a different perspective.

More than a decade later, the question still feels relevant: what are we missing when we move through our cities too quickly?

What happens when architecture education moves out of the studio and into the landscape?

Last summer at DSC, students spent seven weeks studying vernacular buildings, developing concepts through sketches and models, working with available materials and ultimately constructing a small chapel together.

The process asked them to do more than design an object. They had to understand the site, respond to limited resources, collaborate closely and learn directly through making.

The finished structure became a quiet place for reflection in the desert, but the lasting value was in the process behind it.

For us, that is one of the most meaningful parts of teaching architecture: helping students understand that design is not only something you draw. It is something you observe, test, build and learn from.

Things are taking shape at Friends St. 🏗️

We’ve reached the framing stage, and the project is starting to feel less like drawings and more like a real place.

Walls, openings and the roof structure are defining the spaces and giving us the first real sense of scale.

Always an exciting point in the process. More progress to come.

The materials we choose do more than define how a space looks. They shape how it feels to the children who learn, play, and grow within it.

Every child enters the world with an innate sense of curiosity.

The spaces around them can either nurture that instinct or slowly diminish it.

At March Studio, we believe architecture has a responsibility beyond providing shelter. It can encourage exploration, spark imagination, and create opportunities for children to discover the world on their own terms.

Untitled No. 1 was designed with this philosophy at its core: a learning environment where nature, movement and curiosity become part of everyday life, and where the building itself quietly supports the journey of growing up.

At March Studio, we believe great design starts long before the first sketch.

Over the past few weeks, our Principal, Todd March, has been teaching Making Place at Outer Coast, a seminar that encourages students to slow down, observe, ask thoughtful questions, and build genuine relationships with the places they’re exploring before proposing solutions.

That philosophy is deeply connected to how we approach our own work.

Whether we’re designing a community space, a healthcare environment, or a place of worship, we believe every project begins with listening.

Understanding the people, the history, and the character of a place isn’t a step in the process. It is the process.

Seeing the students share their final projects was a reminder that the strongest ideas don’t come from assumptions.

They come from curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to understand before creating.

Thank you to Outer Coast, the students, and the Sitka community for making this year’s studio such a meaningful experience.

We’re excited to see where these future designers go next.
