We’ve been coaxing this beauty for years — whispering to her, willing her, waiting. And this spring, she answered.🌸

Meet our beautiful single bloom of our Sarah Bernhardt peony! (Paeonia lactiflora ‘Sarah Bernhardt’) — a bloom so rare in our corner of the Emerald Coast that most gardeners are told not to even try.

What makes her extraordinary here is that herbaceous peonies require 500 to 1,000 hours of winter chill to set bud and bloom — and Florida’s warmth and humidity are considered among the most unsuitable conditions for this peony . She was never supposed to bloom here.

But she did!

And we believe she bloomed for a reason. This one’s for our sweet Bella — our beautiful girl of 17 years who recently crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. We like to think this is her way of letting us know she’s still here, still with us, still sending beauty into our world.

My best friend, my companion. Our little world traveler, our huntress — you were with us through thick and thin. You warmed our hearts and brought so much joy to our lives each and every day. We were so blessed to have you in our family for the past 17 years.

You were so loved, and you will be so greatly missed.

Fresh from the market 🤩🪴🕯️🥬

Bountiful Thursday at our beloved Grayton Locals Market & today’s market haul was especially beautiful:

Ginormous organically grown cabbage (so beautiful you almost don’t believe it’s real), equally impressive rutabaga, arugula, vibrant watermelon radishes, gorgeous camellias, and one of my own tomato leaf candles to bring home.

Not to mention one of the most delicious treats - My favorite Melopan paired with a maple sweetened iced coffee - So good it didn’t even make it home! 🥐☕️🤤
