McHomestead

McHomestead We started our homesteading adventure when we moved into our home in 2011.

Since then, these city-raised folk have fully embraced the country life of our ancestors, growing from 3 chicks into a whole flock of chickens, ducks, and breeding and raising goat

I have a planner (large urn) that just doesn't fit my style anymore. It's been filled with Hens and Chicks for a few years now, and they were literally exploding out of it last summer! So now that winter is over, and I had a great day of weather, I went to work digging them up and separating them into containers.

I saved a few for my own areas, but different than the urn. And then I grouped the rest into these strawberry and blackberry containers I saved

(See, hubby? I knew what I was doing! Stop throwing away my stuff!!).

I just listed them for sale on my local sites. Anything to help the homestead, right? Early spring is tricky, especially with no baby animals this year, so I'm expanding my assets!

But I wanted to share them with y'all, because look at how pretty!!

This is a time-lapse of my baby plants growing during week 1. ☺

It's so fun to watch the progress the plants make each morning when we get up! Obviously it's the lettuce that's growing fastest lol. I'm excited to see everything else sprout!

And yes, they did get a bit dry. We did water them every day - but maybe not the most effective way. We were using a spray bottle and spraying each section each day, and then trying to make sure there was water in the bottoms of each pan to soak up into the soil as well. But I just don't think I got things moist enough in the beginning to really keep things as wet as they are supposed to be. Monday morning I fixed this, and those Alyssum you see wilting in the bottom left corner are now nice and perky!

Hey y'all! I started a separate insta for my more art-related content (digital and physical). You can find it 😘

I also got adventurous and decided to video myself doing these things and start a YouTube channel 🥴 So please look it up, subscribe, watch the vids, comment, like, share, all the good things! I'm just starting it, and will get better as I go along... So all the help I can get to spread the word and get more views will be greatly appreciated!!

Here is a link to my YouTube channel:

( I have to have at least 100 subscribers before they will allow me to customize the URL... So let's do this!)

Thank you everyone for your support!!

Check out our new stud, Buddy! He's a papered Nigerian buck, and so sweet! I went with my friend a month ago to look at goats for her, and this little guy came up to me, nibbled my shirt hem, leaned against my leg, and was just so darn cute! I feel in love.

So we traveled as a family back to get him this last week. I thought it was a fun road trip, we sang songs, visited a rock shop, found a cute little place for lunch, and spent the entire day traveling together to get this little guy and bring him home.

My son, Logan (6) has claimed him since his doe passed away a few months ago, and is taking really good care of him.

We made a bachelor pen for him and Boaromir so that they can be separated from the girls. So far they are great roommates!

Happy fourth, 'Merica!

We spent the day getting the garden in! I know, super late, but it is what it is! Life keeps hitting us like a freight train over and over.... We planted a s***ton of zucchini and corn, and should help each other grow. So I'm super excited! And if worse comes to worse, I can feed the plants to the animals! Isn't it pretty though!? Now to crash hard tonight.....

.homesteader 's goat ate my paperwork!!

(and immediately I began to plan possible procrastination techniques for future kid assignments) 😂

But it really is a thing! It's legit now! Who needs a dog when you have goats? 🤣🤣

I've been horrible about posting, because life is not only crazy, but it's been crazy hard!

But I can't forget to post about my first real event with my homestead! We went to the Utah Chicken Palooza on April 27th,and sold chickens and other items I've been making.

And this boy right here (swipe to see everything), is the best little salesman and helper! I'm not sure I'd have been able to sell as much as I did without his help! Now to plan girls camp and get ready for the farmers markets in June!!
