Give your new plants a fighting chance from day one.

Florida soil is naturally sandy and often low in nutrients—which is perfectly fine for many of our native and Florida-Friendly plants once they’re established.

But when I’m putting in new plants, I like to give them a little help getting started.

I add about a handful of Espoma Organic Plant-tone to the planting hole, mixing it into the soil before planting. It provides a gentle dose of nutrients while the plant begins developing new roots and settling into its new home.

Those first few weeks are all about root establishment. A healthy root system helps your plant take up water and nutrients and better handle the stress of its new environment.

Think of it as a little boost to help your new plants get their feet—or roots - under them.

Strong roots. Healthy start. Better chance of success.

Pollinators need our help, and the good news is that change can start right outside your door. šŸ¦‹šŸ

In the latest episode of Fresh Take, landscape designer and certified horticulture professional Tenille Dixon Pawlus shares how Florida homeowners can create beautiful landscapes that provide critical habitat for butterflies, bees, birds, and other pollinators.

As pollinator populations face increasing pressures from habitat loss and environmental change, every yard has the potential to become part of the solution.

In this conversation, you'll learn:
šŸ¦‹ Which plants provide the greatest benefit to pollinators
🌿 Simple landscaping choices that create thriving habitat
🌼 Common mistakes that may be limiting the impact of your garden
šŸ” Practical ways to support wildlife, no matter the size of your yard

The future of pollinators isn't just shaped in wild spaces. It's shaped in neighborhoods, gardens, and backyards across Florida.
