Come and have a little look at how cosy this corner feels for fall… 🍂

I’ve been adding all the little layers that make a home feel warm and inviting, and this beautiful Cala Vinyl Mat V-MAT Home has become one of my favorite finishing touches.

It adds so much comfort and style to this space, with a soft, vintage-inspired look that brings in just the right amount of warmth and texture.

I love that it’s made in the 🇺🇸 USA and designed for everyday living. It’s wonderfully comfortable underfoot, durable enough for a home that’s actually lived in, and completely practical too. It’s wipeable and spillproof, so everyday little messes are easy to take care of with a quick wipe.

And something else I love?

They also offer custom sizes, which is perfect for those awkward little spaces where a standard-sized mat simply won’t do. You can have one made to fit your home and your space beautifully.
Beautiful, functional and perfectly at home in my cosy little fall corner.

This is how I like to bring a little autumn into my home.

Come have a little wander through my home with me.

I’ve added bits of autumn here and there, but I still wanted everything to feel like my home …collected over the years, a little quirky, a little old-fashioned, and filled with things I’ve found and fallen in love with.

There are the hand-painted Harlequin floors, an old peg rail with a trio of hats, bits of architectural salvage, vintage books, candles, my gallery wall and all sorts of little treasures tucked in amongst it all.

And then there’s the bedroom… with those soft pinks that somehow seem perfectly at home in autumn.
I’ve never been one to believe that everything has to change with the season.
Sometimes a few little touches are all you need.
A bit of autumn here, an old treasure there, a candle burning and a home that feels warm and lived in.
That’s my kind of decorating.

I don’t really decorate for Halloween… I simply let a little mischief creep in. 🕯️🎃

Give me stacked books, candles burning, a tray layered with blooms and a few collected curiosities, and I’m perfectly happy.

On the sideboard, there’s a plethora of books in whimsical colours, an old clock tucked into the middle, and just enough Halloween to make things interesting.

A broom here. A hat there. Perhaps a crow or two. And, of course, my favourite wonderfully drippy candles — the ones you’re always asking me about.

You don’t have to go all in.

Put a tiny pumpkin on a chair and call it decorating.

Or go full steam ahead with crows, chandeliers, candles and whatever else takes your fancy.

There really are no rules.

Just add a little bit of Halloween, a little bit of whimsy, and perhaps a touch of the unexpected.

After all, a home should have a personality… and mine occasionally gets up to mischief. 🖤

I found a $20 table… and apparently lost all dignity. 😂

Because when you find a solid wood table for $20, there’s only one sensible thing to do…
Spin on it, of course.

And while I may have looked slightly ridiculous doing it, I regret absolutely nothing. 😂

This little thrifted table is now sitting amongst a home built from bargain finds, hand-painted pieces and a collection of things that probably made other people wonder, “Why would anyone want that?”
The mantel- $50…
The hand-painted cabinet behind it- $50.
The Harlequin pumpkin $7 My $20 duck (apparently everyone wants to buy him from me…. not for sale🤣) Thrifted and painted again because apparently I cannot leave well enough alone.

Many of the baskets? Thrift stores… and a few rescued from my lovely neighbor when she moved.

Then there are all the little bits and bobs collected along the way…the things that make a house feel less like a showroom and more like a slightly eccentric English cottage full of curiosities.

Woods, whites, a whisper of blue, thrifted treasures and absolutely no decorating rulebook in sight.
And yes… apparently, spinning on a $20 table is now part of my decorating process. 😂🤍

Stepping into my Victorian gallery wall… where the smallest treasures still have stories to tell.

Adding classic note cards and The Enchanted Forest Friends Place Card Holder - fox cotton & crete
Old photographs, tiny eyeglasses, keyholes, ribbon, an old key fob plate, clock faces, keys, and even a touch of fall foliage tucked inside a frame.

Each little piece adds another layer of history, curiosity, and charm… a patchwork of stories and forgotten beauty woven together with heart and history.

The older I get, the more I realize… all we really want is love.

As I wander through my home this fall, surrounded by old pieces, little curiosities, and things I’ve gathered and loved over the years, I couldn’t help thinking about Dolly.

Her voice, her kindness, her joy… and those beautiful words reminding us to make room for happiness in our lives.

Because perhaps, at the bottom of it all, isn’t that what we truly want?

To be loved.
To love our families.
To share joy.
To be kind.
To make someone else feel they matter.

The pumpkins and old treasures and pretty rooms are lovely, of course… but they are only the backdrop to the life we live within these walls.

So today, in memory of Dolly, I hope we all hold our people a little closer, share a little more joy, and never forget the simplest thing of all…

Love really is the bottom line.

if you love Christmas… Don’t wait until December to start looking!

I know it’s August… And I know some of you are probably thinking, “Christmas already? 😂

But if you love Christmas, this is actually the perfect time to start looking. Start checking the thrift stores.

Look for vintage ornaments. Keep your eyes open for those special little things you may not find again. Because sometimes the most beautiful things are the things you find months before Christmas… And tuck away until it’s time to bring them out.

So I’m not telling you to decorate for Christmas in August. I’m telling you to start looking. Because when Christmas comes, you’ll be glad you did.

I stopped decorating by the rules… and my home finally became mine.

My little entryway is proof that a home doesn’t have to follow whatever style is fashionable this year.

Hand-painted Harlequin floors, a shelf and peg rail my husband built from my sketch, and a found bench. Each and every corner filled with the things that make a home feel wonderfully lived in… coats, hats, handbags, little treasures, trinkets and curiosities gathered along the way.

In the corner a gallery wall overflowing with pictures and frames. Antique books whimsically stacked and layered simply because I adore the visual effect. A little collection of curiosities for the eye to wander over.

And for fall, all my favorite soft neutrals mixed together with thrifted baskets tumbling toward the floor, pumpkins, and autumn foliage… layers upon layers of gathered treasures and seasonal finery.

None of it was bought to follow a trend. Much of it was thrifted, found, made, or collected over time.

And perhaps that’s what I love most about decorating this way… when you choose what you truly love, you don’t have to redecorate every time fashion changes.

Create a home filled with the things that delight you. Fill it with treasures, memories, trinkets and curiosities.

Let it tell your story rather than following a passing fashion.
Because fashions come and go… but a home you truly love never goes out of style.

Look what sweet little pieces snuck into my cottage from my friends cotton & crete.

Meet my vintage Professor Owl, the sweetest vintage-style papier-mâché candy bucket. I am in love with its whimsical charm. It is perfect for holding flowers, sweets, or a handful of autumn leaves.I also picked up the cutest haunted landscape lumbar pillow to dress up the couch, along with two sweet gray terracotta owls and an aged urn. Everything is ready for a cozy autumn season!

Please forgive the speed of this video… I’ve had rather a lot going on lately. 😂

Keep reading, because I’m fairly certain the last few weeks deserve their own sitcom.

I know some of you prefer to linger over every little corner, and normally I would too, but this is a whistle-stop tour of fall around my home because life has been moving at a positively ridiculous pace!

First, I flew to Asheville, North Carolina, spent a week packing, helping my daughter sell bits and bobs on Facebook Marketplace, and donating most of what was left.

Then I drove 12 hours home with the car piled so high I looked like the Beverly Hillbillies. 😂

Once home, I somehow managed to help one daughter find an apartment… and then came the fun part! I thrifted furniture, a sideboard, a coffee table, and so many other beautiful pieces for her new place, put together a gallery wall, and found pillows to match. You’ll see all of that eventually… when I have recovered enough to lift my arms again. 😂

And because apparently I had entirely too much free time, my other daughter moved into her new place the next day, so I helped her move too. Up and down stairs all day🫠🤣

So, my dears, this speedy little fall video is all I could manage to cobble together between moving boxes, thrift shops, long drives, furniture hunting, gallery walls, and general family chaos.

At this point, I don’t need a holiday…
I need a hip replacement and a full-body massage. Preferably with a cup of tea waiting at the end of it. ☕😂🍂
