Nita's Knots

Nita's Knots I love creating with natural fibers, especially all kinds of wool. My pieces play off of the sense of touch with each fiber creating its own mood.

I took a fabulous color theory class taught by Fiona Duthie. I ventured into foreign territory and learned (am learning) a new language of color. I was overwhelmed most of the time but I learn so much and started some creative juices flowing. Here are some of the results.

Yep, I’m still on a crochet for myself kick. I spun this yarn dyed by Quirky Fiber Werks. I love the way it turned out!
But stay tuned - I will be taking a felting class soon to hopefully ignite those felting fires!

I made the shawl I wore at my son’s wedding. Over the course of Covid I have done so much less felting and so much more crocheting just for me. It has been a healing time in my life for which I am very grateful. However, my felting mojo is on the mend! Stay tuned for more fabulous, fun, felting!

Framing my pieces can be a daunting task. I prefer to up cycle when I can but I found this amazing beaded hoop for my Fancy Nancy Mandala. It’s a match made in heaven! Of course it was hell trying to figure out how to wrap it evenly around those beads (how many spaces? How many stitches? How many stitches per space??? Ugh). But wowsers! I love it! You can see this piece in person, tomorrow night at Millstream Night Market in St. Joseph, MN from 5-9. You will find several vendors, good music, and great food and drinks! Come on out to see me!

I AM coming full circle. As I have said, after a whole lotta personal stuff in 2019, and then the pandemic, my wet felting mojo vanished and I have gone back to my creative roots, which is crochet. When I started to crochet in earnest years ago, I progressed from children’s hats to wool boot cuffs (remember that craze? ❤️) and then I became intrigued by felting what I had made. I experimented with various stitches and vessels to see how they would felt up. Well, look at me now! Felting up some mandalas. You can see in the middle pic how much it shrinks as well as how the colors soften and mute. I can’t wait to see how the natural one turns out! Stay tuned! And who knows, maybe there will be a wet felted project in my near future.

My felting mojo is still largely in the toilet. 😕 But I continue to find myself back at my crochet roots. I have wanted to make a dress from the very beginning but it took a long time to find the right pattern, right time and courage to take up the project. I found the pattern, Covid hit and my skills and confidence have grown. It all worked out in the end.
