It’s been a couple years but I was able to make a few Tanzaku this year! Make your wishes come true! Tanzaku, traditionally hung from bamboo, are seen throughout Japan during Tanabata, also known as the Star Festival. It is the one day of the year that two star crossed lovers, Orihime and Hikaboshi, are able to meet up.

Traditionally, five colors (blue, yellow, red, black and white) are used for the Tanzaku and it is said that these five colors have the power to keep away evil spirits and bad luck. Write down your wish on the paper provided, hang the Tanzaku up and hopefully your wish will come true.

You can use a dry erase marker to write your wish on the ceramic “paper” on the bottom of the piece. Since it is glazed, it can be wiped off.
