The myth: a blackout roller shade makes a room 100% dark, edges and all. It does not. The fabric blocks light beautifully, but on a standard inside mount a thin line still leaks in around the sides and the top.

Good news: the gap is the easy part to solve. An outside mount, side channels, or extra width can get you to a genuinely dark room.

Here's what we see all the time. Beautiful counters. New backsplash. And a shade installed where nobody, not the homeowner, not the dog, nobody, can reach it from the floor.
