So much of that cozy feeling comes down to light. Let the low fall sun pour in while you have it, then close up once it gets dark early and the house starts to cool off.

The best consultations start before we ever walk in the door. Here's what each question tells us.

1. Which way does it face? West windows get the hard afternoon glare, and east windows get the early sun. That changes what we'd suggest for the room.
2. Who can see in at night? Step outside after dark with the lights on. What you can see from the driveway, the neighbors can see too.
3. What happens in that room? A nursery needs to go dark for naps. A home office needs light without glare on the screen.
4. What do you love about the window? Maybe it's the view or the way the morning light comes in. Tell us before we measure so we keep it.

You don't need to know honeycomb shades from Roman shades, or wood blinds from faux wood. That's our job. Bring your answers and we'll bring the samples to your house, so you see them in your own light.
