| sanctuary | the bedroom is more than just a place to sleep. For us, it’s our inner sanctum. When designing our “sanctuary” we choose to go light. Light on the walls, ceiling and floor. It evokes a fresh start at the beginning and end of day. It feels like freshly laundered sheets hanging in the breeze. Crisp and clean.
To extend the eye up to the exposed rafters, and to make the room feel bigger, we opted for a four poster bed that has a clean architectural structure, but with the softness of the upholstered headboard and rails.
For the bedsides, we knew we wanted something more than “typical” both in size/proportion and style. We instantly fell in love with the Vienna light toned oak console with its webbed doors. It was the right balance of coastal and modern.
And for good measure, you will always find a fern or plant 🌱 at our bedside.

| green | calming, refreshing and nurturing. It promotes calmness of thinking and concentration. Green is one of the best colors in decorating a nursery because it is so abundant in nature—you can't go wrong!
For just the right amount of green, we added board and batten paneling with shaker pegs and a picture ledge. The paneling adds architectural interest while providing function for a well-loved and heavily used space. Hopefully we pegged it!

| reclaimed | today’s interview with for an upcoming article had me revisiting the Tybee Beach house we helped design back in 2017!
One of the questions asked had to do with the reclaimed beams and its purpose. We choose reclaimed old timber to anchor the room and create delineations between the living, dining/kitchen and hall. We love a good open floor plan, but always prefer creating architectural separations, of some kind, between rooms. It gives the eye a resting place and helps define areas for lighting and furniture placement. If not, sometimes you just end up with a sea of lights across one expansive horizontal plane. It’s nice to have subtle changes in materials (in place of walls) to help define spaces and interest; beyond just the furnishings.

| bedroom transformation | by simply rotating and centering the bed to the adjacent wall we went from a shot gun space to an inviting symmetrical master bedroom. Swipe to see the transformation and layouts.
The trick was in the wall-to-wall curtains. The bedroom, formally a sun porch, had tons of windows, which is lovely but limits the ability to place furniture on the wall. By adding curtains we were able to camouflage one of the center windows to create a solid back drop to receive a king size fully upholstered canopy bed with full size low dressers that sit directly below the windows and provide a nice balance to the room. Plus provides tons of storage. Now the room functions as a true master and is a tranquil sanctuary from the rest of the home.

| green room | otherwise known as our family room. Our son, Rye, at the age of five started calling it the “green room” and, well, it stuck.
Aside from the obvious green sofa, the name is actually quite fitting. Green Room’s, by definition, is a room in a theater or studio in which performers can relax when they are not performing. Hum. Yup. That sounds about right. Rye is quite the performer!

| fruitful | Olive trees and ferns grace many rooms in our house. They symbolize peace, wisdom, fertility, prosperity, luck, and victory. No fruit bearing tree in our land has been praised, painted, sung, as much as the olive tree.

| before & after | This dining room went from a white box to a charming gathering place (eventually!) for family and friends. Swipe to see the before.

It all started with the wallpaper. The narrator of the room. We were instantly drawn to Piedmont paper in taupe. To compliment the paper we went with Randolph Stone by . To create symmetry and balance above the table and within the overall space, we used the Perch light in aged brass and Carmel leather from our talented furniture and lighting friend, .

We then topped it off with a classic wishbone chair in bent beech wood with a tightly woven rattan seat. The dining table featured is from the client's own collection. Let’s just say the table we had custom ordered, well, it didn’t make it in time for dinner (or dessert).

| afternoon de-light | capturing the prettiest time of day in our master bedroom situated on the third floor. We have a very long and narrow room so we opted to use a console vs standard bedsides to max out the space on either side of our bed. We love the light tones of the white oak with the woven doors and bentwood rail detail. Canopy bed is a nice mix of gray stained ash with a linen upholstered headboard and sideboards. We layered a quilt over the headboard to add texture and pattern. It also help protect the headboard fabric! A little trick we do on a lot on upholstered headboards. We have also used vintage rugs on past projects. Tap for resources.
