🥳NATIONAL ROOFING WEEK: Signature Projects

The Founder's House.

We had the privilege of being a part of a historic project here in Schererville Indiana. This is the home of Schererville's Founder, Nicholas W. Scherer, who built this home in 1867. The town of Schererville purchased the home back in 2015 and the home is now being renovated as the future location of the Schererville Historical Society.

We chose James Hardie Siding to give the best representation of the original look of the home. The windows are from Andersen Windows + Doors. Thank you to Calumet Restoration and Beauty Guard for their help in this project as well!

We get caught up in studying history at the macro level, but local history is so important to the identity of a town, and we're honored to have played a small part in helping to preserve the history of Schererville for future generations.

If you suspect storm damage to your property, it's essential to act quickly and methodically. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you assess and address the situation:

1. Ensure Safety First

Stay Indoors: Avoid going outside until it’s safe. Wait for the storm to pass.

Check for Hazards: Look for downed power lines or unstable structures.

2. Assess the Damage

Visual Inspection: lCarefully inspect your property from the inside and outside. Look for:
- Missing or damaged shingles
- Water leaks or stains on ceilings and walls
- Broken windows or doors
- Structural issues

3. Document Everything

Take Photos: Capture clear images of all visible damage. This will be crucial for insurance claims.

Make Notes: Document the date, time, and nature of the damage, as well as any immediate repairs made.

4. Contact Your Insurance Company

Report the Damage: Call your insurance provider to inform them of the situation. Provide them with your documentation.

Understand Your Coverage: Ask about what is covered and the claims process.

5. Secure Your Property

Temporary Repairs: If safe, make temporary repairs to prevent further damage (like covering broken windows with plastic sheeting).

Avoid Permanent Fixes: Don’t make permanent repairs until your insurance adjuster has inspected the damage.

6. Get Professional Help
Hire a Contractor: If extensive damage is found, consider hiring a licensed contractor for repairs. Check their credentials and reviews.

Consult Adjusters: Your insurance company may send an adjuster to assess the damage. Be sure to be present during their visit.

7. Follow Up

Stay in Contact with Your Insurance: Keep communication lines open and follow up on your claim status.

Keep Records: Maintain copies of all correspondence, estimates, and invoices related to the damage and repairs.
