Schuylkill Haven’s Walk In Art Center will be celebrating the grand opening of its custom framing shop with a ribbon cutting on Nov. 7 at noon.
The center at 220 Parkway decided to open a framing shop after identifying a growing need in the community, as there are limited framing options in the area.
“The artists of the WIAC have wanted to have an in-house custom framing shop for several years,” said Jacqueline Engel, WIAC executive director, in the center’s announcement of the move. “It will be just in time for the holidays. Framed family photos and artwork are often the most cherished gifts of the season.”
According to Engel, an opportunity to purchase stock and equipment at a price that was too good to pass up made the WIAC decide to jump into the framing business with both feet.

Pablo Culp, a WIAC associate artist, has taken over the project. Culp has many years of experience from working in a frame shop in Philadelphia. According to Culp, an artist’s eye is a great asset that will allow him to offer creative solutions and a personal touch.
“Artists can offer an understanding of the relationship between a frame and the art,” Culp said. “Framing can enhance, and it’s an assured way of protecting it and leaving a lasting impression for generations.”
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be facilitated by the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce and coincide with the WIAC’s first Saturday studio walk event. Refreshments will be served in the center’s lobby and through Studio Row.
The WIAC’s frame shop will be open by appointment. Appointments can be made by calling 570-732-3728 ext. 305.
