This fall mantel cost me $0 to style. I simply shopped my own home.

This closet had been mocking me since day one of the 30 Day Declutter Challenge. Ten items a day, donate it, sell it, or toss it, and somehow this closet was always tomorrow’s problem.

Oh my gosh, you guys. I could not wrap my head around how much stuff was squeezed into that itty-bitty space. Everything got dragged out and put on display like a chaotic art exhibition while I tried to sort through it all.

Can you believe it? I gave away seven items, tossed out ninety small things, including a toilet paper roll I had apparently been saving for absolutely no reason, and kept only what I actually needed.

Then I cleared it all the way out to start fresh and found the biggest dust bunny known to man lurking in the corner. Yikes.

Floors first, then the wire rack got its shine on, then I scrubbed and polished every bin before it went back in.

The toss and donate pile included a juicer that had been gathering dust for years. Fingers crossed someone else finds it juicier than I did.

It went from cluttered and dusty to organizational bliss, and the cherry on top, it only took 20 minutes.

I sold $6,000 of things from my own home in about 90 days, mostly my mom’s antique reproduction dolls, doll accessories, and the antiques she spent a lifetime collecting.

Letting go of her things was the hardest part of this whole challenge, and also where I found the most unexpected proof that decluttering pays off, literally.

Some of it sold. Some of it I gave away. All of it taught me something about starting fresh.

Okay, real talk… today I stood in my closet and thought, how did I end up with all of this? 😅

So I decided to do something about it.

I spent some time going through everything and ended up pulling 27 shirts and pairs of pants to donate to a local women’s shelter. Some were expensive. Some were inexpensive. And some… well, I honestly forgot I even owned them.

And you know what? The second I cleared that space, my whole closet felt lighter. Brighter. Easier to breathe in.

That moment is exactly why I created my 30 Day Declutter Challenge. I wanted something simple, doable, and actually motivating. The idea is easy: remove 10 items a day for 30 days. Donate them, sell them, or toss them. That’s it.

But here’s the magic… it’s not just about getting rid of stuff. It’s about creating a home that feels calm, open, and a little more like you again.

Sixteen years in real estate. This is the first desk I have ever had.

I have sold homes out of my car. Out of my kitchen. Off a laptop balanced on my knees in a parking lot between showings, with a coffee going cold in the cup holder. That is just how this business works for a lot of us. You are always out, so you never get an office, so you never get a desk.

And then I moved over to Brokers Hub Realty, and they gave me one. My own desk. My own space.

Now, the desk itself is brown. Standard issue, perfectly fine, about as exciting as a filing cabinet. So I brought in my own.

Beige matte with gold accents, because there has never been a version of me that does not reach for gold. Acrylic phone holder and acrylic storage, so everything stays clear and nothing reads as clutter. Notepads and pens in a neutral palette that actually make me want to pick them up.

Neutral, modern, warm. It is me. It just took sixteen years to have a surface to put it on.

Turns out being a realtor with a designer’s eye applies to my own workspace too. Who knew.

Sixteen years of walking through other people’s homes, and it turns out mine needed the most attention. I am starting a 30 Day Declutter Challenge, and I would love for you to do it with me.

It is the little things. I dropped a closing gift in the mail today for my clients out in Peoria, a Starbucks gift card and a note to let them know what a pleasure it was working with them.

Here is the story behind it. When we were together, they mentioned they were going to have to cut back on their Starbucks runs now that they bought the house. So I thought, not on my watch. A little something to keep them fueled through all the renovations and the moving boxes ahead.

People sometimes assume the relationship ends at the closing table. For me it is the opposite. That is where it starts.

Sixteen years in, and the clients who became friends are my favorite part of this job. It is never really just about the house. I have been fortunate enough to help this family buy and sell multiple homes over the years.
