Here's a question worth asking early in a build: is a 200-amp panel actually enough?

For a lot of modern homes, it's getting tight. Add an EV charger, a couple of large AC units on a sprawling single-story desert home, and all the everyday electrical loads, and the demand climbs quickly.

The issue was never any one device it's everything running together.

When the panel gets sized as an afterthought, the home can end up unable to power everything it was designed to support. An undersized panel becomes a design constraint you didn't plan for.

The fix is simple: plan the load early and match the panel capacity to the home's real demand, working with the builder and the local jurisdiction from the start.

AI is already changing how many industries operate, and construction will be no exception.

It could make inventory management, planning, and other behind-the-scenes tasks much more efficient. But when it comes to wiring a house, supervising the jobsite, and handling the unexpected problems that arise during a build, experienced people are still essential.

The most valuable role for AI may not be replacing workers. It may be helping good teams work more efficiently, avoid mistakes, and keep projects on schedule.

A buyer asked for a 70-amp spa shower. Great. Then it turned into "well, do you want the spa shower or the electric car charger?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

Yes, having both means a panel upgrade. But think about who that buyer is , someone who wants a spa shower and a car charger today is the same person who'll want a beverage fridge and an addition down the road. They're building for how they actually want to live.

So encourage the upgrade. The way you do it without change orders and blown schedules is running the electrical load early and getting your electricians in the conversation before decisions get locked in. Get ahead of the panel, and it saves time and money for everyone at the table.
