Wednesday, I lost my only grandfather, my Papaw. ❤️

My Papaw was a wonderful example of what a man should be. He was a wonderful husband, a loving dad, an amazing Papaw, and the absolute best playmate for us little kids. Not to mention, the best pole barn/playhouse builder there ever was.

I’m not sporty, so that’s one thing we didn’t have in common, but we did share a great love for country music. I’ll miss our deep discussions about who was the best singer, the best songwriter, and, of course, who was the prettiest at the time. 😂 Those conversations will always make me smile.

More than anything, Papaw had a way of making you feel wanted, important, and loved. And for that, I am so thankful.

I hope I can carry that part of him with me. I will strive to make the people around me feel the same way Papaw made me feel—wanted, loved, and valued.

I’m going to miss you more than I can put into words, Papaw. Thank you for all the memories, all the laughter, all the little things you did for us, and most of all, for showing me what it means to be a good man.

I love you, Papaw. Until we meet again. ❤️

Today, my little family went to Dolly’s house to pay our respects, leave some flowers, and say goodbye in our own little way.

Sybil left Dolly a picture, and watching her do that honestly broke my heart and made me smile all at the same time.

I still can’t get over the fact that she’s gone. I know the world keeps moving, but for those of us who grew up loving Dolly, it feels like something is missing.

Dolly was so much more than a singer or an entertainer. She was a light. She made people laugh, gave people hope, loved people well, and somehow made millions of us feel like we knew her.

Today we stood there as a family, left our flowers, said our little goodbye, and took a moment to be thankful that we got to live in a world with Dolly Parton in it.

Today, we hung a white wreath on the door and turned the radio to you.

My heart is heavy today as I try to put into words what the passing of Dolly Parton means to me.

I know some people may wonder, How can you love someone you never knew? And no, I didn’t love Dolly more than my wife, my daughter, my family, or my Jesus. But I do believe that the love I have for Dolly comes from the very things we have in common.

A love for family.
A love for people.
A love for community.
A love for music.
And most importantly, a love for faith.

Dolly had a way of making people feel like they belonged. She reminded us that kindness matters, that giving matters, that where you come from matters, and that you can remain humble no matter how far life takes you.

I’m incredibly grateful for the impact she had on my life. For the music, the lessons, and all the little moments that became part of my story because of her.

Today, my heart feels heavy. But I’m also incredibly thankful for every phone call, message, tag, and text I’ve received from people who knew exactly how much she meant to me. Every single one meant more than you know. 🤍

Dolly may be gone from this world, but the things she gave us will never be gone. Her music will play, her words will be remembered, her kindness will continue through others, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of so many.

So today, we’ll keep the radio on.

We’ll sing along.

We’ll remember.

And we’ll say thank you.

Dolly Parton, I will always love you

-Seth
