Space City Infant Aquatics If your child accidentally found him/herself alone in the water, would they know what to do?

There are some simple things you can do at home with your toddler or young child to start teaching them water safety.

⚠️ Do not let your child reach for toys in the pool. You have to set this boundary early on.

🔙 Teach them to swim back to safety… weather it’s the steps, a ladder or a wall. They should be taught were to go if they fall in & that SHOULD NOT be the parent because what will they do if you are not there ?!

🛑 Do not teach them to blow bubbles. They need to hold on to their air for as long as possible.

If you plan to start swimming lessons soon regardless of where you go these are some thing YOU can do at home to help your child stay safe and to make lessons less stressful for you and your child.

Today is . While no child is drown proof there is a lot we can do to minimize the risk of drowning … swimming or self-rescue skills are the last barrier of protection

Adult supervision can never be replaced ! You must always be in the water with young or weak swimmers. Always be an arm length away & do not allow children to enter the pool by themselves, ever!!!

Alarm doors, gates, pool fences, sensors in the pool, cameras, a designated watcher, etc are other ways to minimize risks.

All of these combined are effective ways to keep children safer in and around water.

This holiday 🇺🇸 weekend is extra important to watch all kids around water !!!

👀 if everyone is watching, no one is watching! HAVE A DESIGNATED WATCHER & rotate every 15-20 min. NO CELLPHONES!

🛟 no floaties or life vests in pool. Children SHOULD wear an approved life vest in open bodies of water, boats, crowded water parks: lazy rivers & wave pools for young children.

⁉️ children should never be allowed to enter the pool alone or without asking for permission first. Make this a habit!

🥵 take breaks!!!! Children should be taking breaks to hydrate and rest when outside in general.

⚠️ the most dangerous time for a child to drown is non-swim times so make sure a young child is ALWAYS being watched when taking a break, having a snack or packing up to leave the pool. If a child is missing the first place to look for is the water !!!!

Have a safe holiday weekend!

Now that I am teaching strokes I am realizing I definitely need a bigger pool! These kids will do a few strokes and are already on the other side of the pool 🥴 but we are still learning & they are doing great!
