Week 1 Sept

If your interior designer isn’t checking in on your job site during construction, they’re doing it wrong.

Here’s a quick peek into a day in my life as an interior designer here in Southern California.

Right now, we have two home renovations wrapping up in the next few weeks and one that just broke ground, thankfully they’re all close to the office, so I can swing by on my way to or from Seal Beach.

These final weeks are all details: confirming the last decisions, making sure every piece of product is ordered, tracked, and delivered to site so the finish install goes off without a hitch. This is where a project either comes together beautifully or falls apart — and it doesn’t come together by luck. It comes together because someone is there, on-site, overseeing every detail.

Good thing I love what I do. 🤍
Ready to hand your renovation to someone who actually shows up? DM us to start.

Back to CSULB!

Not for classes or camps, but to watch my daughter step into nursing at her White Coat Ceremony.

Standing by the Pyramid brought me straight back 33 years to when I moved from San Diego to start my Interior Design degree. Long 15-hour days building models and pulling 3-day all-nighters built friendships that are still thriving today. We even filmed a dorm makeover show for Discovery Channel back before social media existed!

Now as the new Student Liaison for IDS OC/LA, I’m honored to help guide the next generation of designers starting their own paths. Life truly comes full circle—this month I’m wrapping up a kitchen remodel for a client who was the big boss on campus when I was a student assistant! The connections you make early on shape everything.

Here’s to celebrating new chapters and staying passionate about what we build.

“Have you had a ‘full circle’ moment in your career recently? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!”

Ok, jumping on the bandwagon because I think It’s chic to invest in Design, and you should always have a designer and a plan when you are thinking about a renovation.

The most beautiful spaces aren’t created by chasing every trend on Pinterest. They come from thoughtful decisions, careful planning, and trusting the process, and that’s what we do.

Just yesterday a client told me how much they love their home and that, if it weren’t for me, they’d still be living  in an unusable, chopped up space with Pinterest photos taped up everywhere.

This week marks my LAST first day of school; my youngest started his Senior year, my twins will be juniors in college, and my oldest is already adulting and working full-time.   This season is different, and I’m not sure where summer actually went and how school is starting again, but here we are.   Each year I say I’ll take summer Fridays, schedule more beach days, and plan a little more downtime, but then I blink, and summer is over.    This summer flew by, 2 graduations, a trip to Japan for my youngest, a swim champion, and having my son home from college for 6 weeks.  We always made the most of our summers, BUT planning trips together is getting harder and harder. We only had about 30 hours altogether celebrating Julianna’s graduation in Portland in May, and this past weekend Greg planned a quick getaway to go wine tasting and make sure my Dylan was settled back at school.  With three busy summer lifeguards, there really was no time for a family trip. Looking through my camera roll, we did have some fun (the boys even came to Market), but I’m really missing our family time together.

What’s your most memorable family trip for your young adults?

The best design removes friction you didn’t even know was there.

The best design is about how your home makes you feel, not just how it looks. And that’s what I love about what I do. There’s nothing I like more than diving into my clients’ lives and understanding how they live. During discovery, we spend time gathering information on how you want to live in your home. From inspo pictures to lifestyle, my job as your designer is to create a space that supports you, not a one-size-fits-all aesthetic.

Do you entertain? Do you have kids going in all directions with all kinds of gear? Does your family gather here for the holidays?

We design around your life. The entry that quietly ends the daily pile-up. The kitchen that flows the way you actually cook. The best design makes you stop fighting the flow of your home. That’s the magic: when a space stops demanding your attention and simply supports your life.

A renovation done right doesn’t just look beautiful. It runs beautifully, every detail considered, so your days get easier and you barely notice the reason.

That’s what we design for. Not the Pinterest moment, the Monday morning that suddenly feels effortless.

Why I always make a point to travel to at least 2 markets a year.

Maybe I’m old school, but I love to see, touch, and feel the products I recommend for you in person!

I’m not an e-designer or a designer who just specifies products online.

That’s why I make it a point to travel to design industry markets to touch the fabrics, do sit tests, feel the weight of a piece, and see the items I specify for your home in person.

A photo can’t do that or tell you if something’s right. Your home is personal, and my mission is to find the perfect pieces for you and your home.

What you see when you retail shop is just a small amount of what has been curated for that store and that experience. Those pieces are not selected with your home in mind.

This is the part you never have to think about.

I take it off your plate, so what shows up in your home is exactly right the first time.

Every showroom, every appointment, I’m sourcing and searching for unique pieces that I can put my name behind.

My clients bought a new home. Then they decided not to move.

Smaller, closer to town,  on paper, downsizing made perfect sense. The kids were grown with families of their own.

But this house has something you can’t buy twice. There’s a little magic in the property, and decades of memories, love, and laughter inside it. Leaving just didn’t feel right.

What started as a simple conversation about what could be turned into a multi-phase project.

Phase one is the Casita, separate from the main house, so there’s independence and a place to get away, while still staying close. It was designed to be accessible from the start: wider doorways, generous clearances, a roll-in shower, grab bars built into the plan instead of added later. Whether it’s for aging parents or for themselves one day, the support is already there and built in.

Sometimes the best move is staying.
Weighing whether to move or renovate? Let’s talk.

People think interior design is all fabrics and finishes. It’s actually contractors, budgets, timelines, and a thousand decisions before you ever get to the pretty part. On a home renovation, we manage all of it; you don’t have to! We want you to enjoy process, not be stressed handling things on your own? Clients loving having us guide them through the process, leaving the worrying to us. Are you ready for a designer who looks out for your best interest and makes your renovation go smoothly?

My Clients are obsessed with custom tile and I can see why.

There’s nothing like walking into a kitchen and seeing a beautiful backsplash that lights you up and shifts the entire energy of the room. That’s what good design is all about, it changes how you feel in your home every single day and everyone should feel good and love their home.

We had so much fun designing the tiles on our Arroyo Grande project, this tiny detail added so much to each space.  From the kitchen to the ADU, each space had its own set of unique tiles we worked with.  Don’t worry, we love the details and we figure them out so you don’t have to worry about anything.

We make sure there are no ugly outlets in the middle of your beautiful tile, we plan  layout, how thick  and what color is the grout and how the edges are finished.

Your backsplash is the focal point of your space-why not make it something you love?

The best seat in the house on the 4th? Wherever your people are!!!

Holidays are time to slow down and gather with those you love, and the 4th of July is no exception.   The 4th is all about block parties, bike parades, boat rides  and bbq’s, spending time and making memories.   We love designing homes for the way you actually celebrate — friends spilling onto the kitchen, kids in the pool, and nobody stressing about the details.  This home is made for entertaining with lots of space and built in seating for all of their friends and family.  Since they were under construction last year on the 4th, they will be celebrating big time today.  Happy 250th Birthday America!
How are you celebrating today?
