At first glance, it looks like a gold pendant with some kind of tooth hanging from it — and that's pretty much exactly what it is.
This is an old B.P.O.E. piece from the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Elk members commonly had genuine elk teeth polished and mounted in gold as watch fobs, charms and other jewelry, a tradition that became especially popular around the turn of the 20th century.
This one is marked 14K and still has the B.P.O.E. emblem and enamel work on the front, along with the original owner's initials and number engraved on the back.
Pretty neat piece of American fraternal history that we probably wouldn't have thought twice about if we were only looking at it for the gold.
