The Makapuu Lighthouse Trail has always been one of my favorite hikes ๐ป climb 500 ft(ish) to the top for breathtaking panoramic views of the Windward side of the island. On a clear day you can see Maui, Molokai and Lanai from the top. The trail is paved by a dramatic rugged black lava rock facade and leads you to a picturesque red lighthouse๐ฏMake sure you lather up in sunscreen coz this hike is completely exposed/unshaded... though it started pouring once we got to the top, was quite refreshing actually! During the winter you can see whales ๐ here!
On one end, you can climb down to Halona beach and the famed Halona Blowhole - we hiked right up to it!! Not sure how safe it was being so close ๐ but be sure to swipe through to see the blowhole and hear me howling with awe at nature's divine majesty โจ๏ธโค๏ธ The blowhole is formed by molten lava tubes, and water from the ocean brought in by waves causes it to erupt. You have to wait for a pretty big wave to crash right in front of you to witness this eruption. I was so excited I got it on film. My brother was worried I'd fall in, I was going super close to the blowhole ๐คฃ gotta do it for the gram am I right?! ๐๐ would you do this hike? Have you ever seen a blowhole?
