Hi there đź‘‹ I'm Laura!
I’m a Pacific Northwest mom of two who never set out to build a clothing brand. My 18 year old self was convinced I'd be a lawyer or work in government my whole life. I didn’t study fashion or design, and for most of my life, I wouldn’t have called myself particularly creative. But motherhood has a way of revealing parts of you that were waiting for the right moment.
Getting my newborn son dressed each day should have been simple—but it rarely felt that way. I found myself searching for pieces that were soft, thoughtfully made, and easier during outfit changes than the pieces I was finding. Clothes that looked beautiful without trying too hard. Pieces you could reach for again and again without ever second-guessing them.
With $8,000 in inventory and no roadmap, I took a chance on myself and started Lily & Spruce. So many people warned me about the industry I was joining--it was an "overly saturated market," "cash negative business" and "you'll never be able to grow without manufacturing in China." It wasn't that I didn't listen at all, but the passion grew so big I couldn't ignore it. I knew it would be hard...but something about being in your 30s--I cared less what people thought and was far less fearful of failure than I ever used to be.
I’ve never been the mom in the latest trends. I’m a tomboy at heart, drawn to timeless, understated pieces that hold up over time. That same philosophy is woven into everything we make: effortless, enduring, and designed for real life with little ones.
Lily & Spruce is built on the belief that getting your baby dressed should feel easy—and that the pieces you choose should be just as lasting as the moments you’re in. I hope you enjoy these pieces as much as we do in my family 🤍
