Certain situations need solutions that are less architectural but just as personal & tailored. The pieces need to be exactly what you were hoping for.

When clients can't find the perfect piece of furniture, we can help. We often design and build furniture to fit spaces perfectly such as tables, benches, banquettes, and media cabinets.

Having problems finding a specific sized table, or need a custom banquette? Reach out and let's talk.

Our philosophy when it comes to interior furnishings is that everything in your home should have a purpose, or you should absolutely love it.

For the past 10 years we have worked to integrate interior design into our design-build model and decided to offer interior design & furnishing services. The primary mission of JAS Interior Furnishings is to continue to partner with our build clients as well as working with new clients on “Interiors-Only” projects.

Helping to cultivate and enliven meaningful living spaces anchored in those key Design-Build values is how we have chosen to approach selecting and coordinating the “stuff of life”.

Thinking about an interior design project? We would be happy to help.

Handing a home back to a client is one of the most rewarding days as a design-build firm.

We just did the final walk-thru on this Seattle project. Larger projects take time, often 9 months or more. Our clients move out so that we can build-out the vision that we had been collaborating on for months. And as the project comes to an end, the JAS team is excited to witness the family moving back in - the smiles, the comments, the kids running around checking out their new spaces, and we can step back and be proud of the work.

Their home is still the same, just improved. Still has the heart and soul of the original character that drew them to the house to begin with. We just assist in helping our clients make it their own.

Before & Wow.

We’ve designed and built many 2nd stories in our 30+ years of business.

Each one is unique, yet unified by our attention to detail and a commitment to timeless design.

Creating “new” homes that don’t feel out place in the neighborhood requires an additional level of care that often goes overlooked. We are all familiar with structures that pop-up and just look out of place, where design was clearly an afterthought to the budget.

It’s not easy, but with a decerning architect and talented builders, a remodel has the capacity to maintain an elegant timelessness withing a wide variety of budgets.

If you’re contemplating a second story addition, or any addition for that matter, reach out! We’d love to start a conversation about your project.

A visit to the Heath Ceramics tile factory in San Francisco!

Owner of Heath Ceramics, Cathy Bailey, gave Kim & Joe a tour of the production facilities during their recent visit to San Francisco.

Heather Ceramics was founded in 1948 by Edith and Brian Heath in Sausalito, CA. The company still operates out of the same building in Sausalito but has expanded to an old laundry facility in San Francisco’s Mission District. Heath Ceramics continues to make beautifully handcrafted tile and home goods.

Kim and Cathy met at a creative retreat in New Mexico last year and have held a mutual admiration for each other’s work ever since.

Big thanks to Cathy and the entire Heath team for showing us around! You have an amazing operation and eye for design!

JazzBall 2026

The great musician Nina Simone found her voice by uniting two worlds that are rarely connected: the structure of classical music and the free expression of jazz. Alchemy often happens this way, with each element calling and responding to the other so naturally that an unexpected pairing begins to feel inevitable. Through jazz, Simone harnessed her magic and described it simply:

“𝐽𝑎𝑧𝑧 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑚𝑢𝑠𝑖𝑐, 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑎 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒, 𝑖𝑡’𝑠 𝑎 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑏𝑒𝑖𝑛𝑔, 𝑎 𝑤𝑎𝑦 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔.”

—𝑁𝑖𝑛𝑎 𝑆𝑖𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑒

Since 2021, jazz has been a meeting place for celebrating, amplifying, and supporting a shared commitment to affordable homeownership and sustainable rural development on Lopez Island.

JAS co-founders Joe Schneider and Kim Clements have both served as dedicated board members for Northwest nonprofit organizations: Joe with the https://www.lopezclt.org/ (LCLT), and Kim with https://www.seattlejazzed.org/.

Their work with these organizations—one focused on affordable homeownership, sustainable agriculture, and rural development, and the other opening the empowering, community-building world of jazz to K–12 students—inspired the idea for JazzBall.

The majority of JAS projects rely on custom cabinetry.

After 11 years, our cabinet shop on Nickerson was long overdue for a proper paint job. Two of Kim and Joe's sons took care of the paint additions, while the cabinet shop crew hopped in to assist on a massive timber bench for both the cabinet makers and neighborhood (shop bench-talk forthcoming).

Have you been by the CABINETSHOP? Let us know your thoughts on the new design!

Every year our Division Heads venture out on a retreat to bond, learn from other businesses, and talk some shop. This year they stayed local, starting and finishing at Pike Place Market.

First Stop - 𝑆𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑜’𝑠 𝐹𝑟𝑢𝑖𝑡 & 𝑃𝑟𝑜𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑒. Founded in 1984, Mike Sosio still runs what is considered the market’s oldest continuously operated produce stand. Mike shared not only his knowledge of fruits and veg, but also of what it means to run one of the Market’s essential businesses.

Next, onto 𝑂.𝐵. 𝑊𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑎𝑚𝑠 in S**o to get an inside look at how their moldings are made. These guys have an extensive and incredibly talented cabinet shop. Beautiful woods and exceptional carpenters equal high-quality products that will last many years.

Then to Woodside/Braseth Gallery, Established 1961. John Braseth shared a fabulous new exhibition of some of the ‘Northwest Mystics’ including Mark Tobey, Kenneth Callahan, Guy Anderson, and Morris Graves.

Lunch Fuji Sushi in the International District, then onto our structural engineers at Swenson Say Faget. Blaze Bresko gave us a tour of the offices and talked about retrofitting, design, and problem-solving. He also shared his love of baseball.

Last stop was back at the market to visit Bite Society. Lendy and Katie explained how they pivoted during the pandemic when they decided to close 𝐶𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝐶𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔, developing their new business model centered around high-end snacks and gift baskets. We recently built out their new market stall this past spring.

Finally, the team sat down for a lovely dinner at Place Pigalle Restaurant and Bar - a time to enjoy each other's company and reflect on the highlights of the day.

Team building isn’t just about business trips; it’s the food you share, the conversations you have, and the time spent in each other’s company– aspects of life that make our work better and more human.

Stay tuned to see more JAS outings and company events.

Outdoor Showers
Hot summer days are here. How do you cool off - by jumping in a lake, ocean, or pool? What if you could take a cool shower outside instead?
We have designed and built many outdoor showers for our clients here in the Pacific Northwest as many people enjoy showering outside all year long. There is nothing like looking up to the sky when rinsing off to feel one with nature.
Do you wish you had an outdoor shower? Reach out and let us help you explore the idea of adding an outdoor shower to your home.

10th Anniversary Shout-out!

A little bit tardy on this post but we wanted to make sure to recognize another milestone anniversary here at JAS.

On July 8th 2016, Andrew Krehbiel joined JAS as a carpenter, however this was not the first time he had worked at JAS. Andrew worked for us for a spell between 2003-2007 until he moved to Philadelphia. When he moved back he reached back out and we were thrilled.

In 2018 Andrew joined our Service division and has been a very valuable Service carpenter ever since.

Andrew is creative, resourceful, hardworking, and patient and remembers jobs and people better than anyone else I know. He tracks hardware and projects with incredible precision and if someone says, ‘I need such and such for a particular job’, chances are he’ll have it (or know where/how to find it).

Andrew loves a challenge and is a keen problem solver. We have yet to hear him say ‘I can’t/won’t do that’. He is accommodating, willing, motivated, and driven and it’s been a joy getting to know him over the years.

Did you know that he is also an avid cyclist, snow boarder, artist, skateboarder, and pin ball expert? He has more strings to his bow than Robin Hood - and a much better, self-stitched cap!

We can always trust Andrew to get the job done with the utmost care and support and this is key to helping make the Service division successful.

Congratulations, Andrew, on your 10 years at JAS – we are very lucky to have you!
