We did it!!!! Hallelujah! When positivity, kindness, acceptance and respect triumph over hatred and bigotry. It’s still a long road ahead but thank you to all of you who came out (or sent in ballots) to vote for the right reasons! Also! How amazing that we have a first woman Vice President! Tears are happening and champagne will be popping very soon!

Happy Halloween! 🍁🍂
I’m sharing last year’s shot from the same spot because like most of 2020, this year’s viewpoint isn’t as good. Swipe for this morning’s view. Still good because its from horseback. 🐴 also, the mountains were out and I’ll take that view any day, especially in the fall.

About to drop the next blog post in 6-24 hours (I can’t commit to immediately). But I can say this work in progress view is already making me so happy. It also shows the stark contrast between our light and bright kitchen and this dark and moody dining room. It’s so interesting how the position of a room in a house can dramatically effect the amount of light there is within a space.
I’m also thankful for the latest email from the team about the extension! I hope we can now meet the new deadline - at least with the chairs. How’s everyone else doing with their ORC rooms?

The past few weeks have been a little tough, I have to admit. Thank you all so much for your support, virtual hugs and kind words regarding our boy Max. That decision was a heavy weight to carry around before we even made it and although I miss him so much, I do have a sense of relief knowing he is at peace. It took going back through photos and videos for both my husband and I to realize just how old he was and how much of ‘him’ had passed on already.
I think now I can finally begin to embrace fall and the change in season. Work is good as we are preparing for a photoshoot in December and about are to break ground on a long awaited renovation project.
Though the election is right around the corner and that unknown is of course causing some unease but I also hope, that no matter the result, we can all (the world) take a deep breath. 2021 is not far away, and although we won’t be out of the woods in terms of the world’s problems, we can at least be thankful for the fact that a new year is right around the corner.
PS who else embraces dried hydrangea season as much as me?

We are moving right along on our space. This week I painted the ceiling, started installing the wallpaper, and placed the antique Hepplewhite style sideboard that my mother gifted us. The blog post should be on alayeredlife.com sometime tomorrow or Saturday!
If you’ve been following along in stories, you’d know that we did hit a snag in the timeline with the chairs, and will probably not finish the room in time. But I plan to keep working on the elements that are in my control and let the universe decide the fate of the elements that are not.
I’ve always known that trying to accomplish an entire room maker over in 6 weeks is a major challenge (hence the name) and this time around I didn’t have everything figured out ahead of the start date, so I guess it was inevitable.
I want to say that I am super grateful to the fabricators and artisans I am working with on this space to bring it together. They’re skills are so appreciated! The work we do could not happen without them!

My latest post is live on the blog! In this week’s post I discuss the light blue color that I’ve selected for the dining room ceiling. I’ve finalized the color too!
This week I also pulled out the rug we’ll be using in the room to see how it will look with the other patterns and the paint color. Our little piglet Rita Mae had to test it out for us as well since she’ll be spending many dinners on this rug waiting for the next crumb to drop. The rug is a vintage Wilton in the Birds of Paradise pattern. Swipe to see how it looks with some of the paint colors, and the rest of the elements in the room. And don’t forget to read the blog post - linked in profile.

We finally got around to hanging the roman shades up last night. What a good Monday view, even if it is rainy and gray. We still have some minor tweaks to make on the kitchen before we can finally call this space done. The fabric by is perfection. Roman shades by .

Sharing a little inspiration for the as well as sharing the room in my mother’s home () I discussed on the Style Matters podcast with . I explained how she painted the walls in borrowed light and installed a paper that was cutout to only reveal the four seasons and the railings. Then how her friend Will Perkins went back in and added depth through paint (trompe l’œil) as well as painted the floor to resemble a patterned stone.
This room inspires me to take risks and think outside the box. For the our dining room I’m planning to paint the ceiling and the color I’m planning to use will be a light blue - more on that reasoning later. But the borrowed light is one color I am testing in the space.
I’ve never been a huge fan of blue, but certain colors like this one are special to me. The airiness and emptiness in this color is soothing. But also, it will always bring me back to this space, the entry to my childhood home will stick with me for my lifetime. I design with a lot of reason, I also let emotions and my gut drive some of the decisions. I personally believe when we do that, it’s what makes our style stand out from others’. There can be a sense of imperfection that ends up being just right.

My post is live! I’m sharing the current conditions, inspiration, and design plan for the dining room makeover! As an attempt to tone down and soften all the wood paneling in this room, I’m adding a lot of soft texture and organic pattern. Perhaps not what you’d expect to see in a craftsman style dining room, but very much what you’d expect to see from me 😊. Here we go again!
Once again, thank you to for hosting such a fun event and for for being the media partner.

Zandra of released the episode interviewing me on the Style Matters Podcast today! In this conversation we cover a little bit of where the name of Studio Laloc came from, how my aesthetic was influenced at an early age, my past life working in retail designing displays for Tiffany & Co and Bergdorf Goodman, and of course about the essence of my work and how I approach interiors. Hoping you’ll find some time to listen (it’s a long one!) and learn a little more about me and our brand.
Zandra asked terrific questions and uncovered so much in this conversation. I am so honored to have been included in this podcast and the line up of amazing designers and creatives Zandra has interviewed. Thank you Zandra! Make sure to follow to keep up on the other episodes as the podcast airs. 📸 by .

Slightly veering away from interiors in this post to celebrate the change in season. To be honest it’s been hard to embrace fall this year with all that’s going on in the world and our country. Some days it feels like if we can just slow down the passage of time, we can hang on the good ol’ days. Yesterday we headed up north to Skagit Valley to visit a few favorite shops and local businesses that always spark joy and inspire to create, enjoy life and of course get into the fall mood.
On the list: opened for the fall season and in addition to a wide assortment of gourds, their displays are top notch. So much to see as you sip your hot cider and pluck your pumpkins. carries hundreds of varieties of plants and flowers, with their specialty in roses. It is a must to wonder through their greenhouses and to not miss their garden that surrounds an old school house. And finally, about 15 minutes up the road a petite lifestyle boutique located in a charming brick building (it’s only one room!) selling a wonderfully curated collection of home goods, antiques, jewelry and clothing.
