Detroit’s abandoned train station came back to life.

Michigan Central Station closed in 1988 and sat empty for three decades before Ford began a six-year restoration. More than 3,000 skilled workers helped bring back its marble floors, vaulted ceilings, and Beaux-Arts grandeur — turning one of Detroit’s most famous ruins into a symbol of renewal.

Built in 1465 in Tabriz, the Blue Mosque is famed for its deep blue tilework, calligraphy, and refined brick geometry—surviving in part even after the devastating 1780 earthquake.

Rising 51 meters, AAhkA by Sámi-Finnish artist Outi Pieski now defines the entrance to Oslo’s new A-Block. Integrated into the soaring Pyramid Hall, the monumental work brings together art, architecture, and references to Sámi history, culture, and duodji.

With its dramatic scale and intricate presence, the piece turns the new Government Quarter into more than an administrative complex — it also introduces a striking new cultural landmark in the city.

Cincinnati Union Terminal (1933) — one of the great icons of American Art Deco.

Its monumental half-dome rotunda was the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere when completed, stretching about 180 ft (55 m) wide and rising 106 ft (32 m) high. The interior is famous for the vibrant mosaics by artist Winold Reiss, celebrating American workers and industry.

Designed by Fellheimer & Wagner, the terminal once served as a major railroad hub. A fun pop-culture twist: its bold façade later inspired the Hall of Justice in the Super Friends cartoons from the DC universe.

Today, the building lives on as the Cincinnati Museum Center, proving that great architecture can evolve without losing its identity.

Nine wonderful medieval rosettes (rose windows) from Central Italy—mostly Umbria and Tuscia (Northern Lazio). These circular windows weren’t just decoration: their stone tracery (the lace-like ribs) helped hold the glass in place, while the rose/“wheel” geometry symbolized cosmic order, eternity, and the divine light filtering into Romanesque and Gothic churches. 😍 Photos 📸 - vis Architecture Hub https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=923388700188208&set=a.210188448174907

The stunning 2025 Christmas tree is now standing inside the Grand Foyer of the Palais Garnier! It sits inside the opera’s main ceremonial hall, the space designed for imperial receptions and intermissions, surrounded by gold statues, mirrors, and ceiling paintings from the late 1800s!

The tree is created specifically for this room. The scale, colors, and ornament density are chosen to work with the architecture. Every year, this is one of the few Christmas installations in Paris placed inside a major historic monument rather than a store or outdoor market.

You don’t need a performance ticket to see it. It’s visible during daytime visits to the Opéra Garnier throughout December, outside of performance closures 🤩

Like all Garnier holiday installs, it will disappear shortly after the New Year.
