As we close our doors for good and say farewell, THANK YOU cannot adequately express our gratitude for your support of Rustic Pine Designs these last 15 years. Some of you have come back again and again and now feel like friends, even though we've never met!
When I began experimenting with wood and paint years ago, we never dreamed that God would grow this hobby into the business it became and enable me to stay home with my young children. What a gift that was to our family! THANK YOU.
So why stop now?
There are many reasons, and this decision has been two years in the making. Here are the main reasons we won't be making signs anymore:

- Wood Quality - We can no longer get truly flat wood (unless we switched to plywood, which I'm not willing to do). Simply put, this means that a sign that previously took 45 minutes to carve, now takes 2-3 hours! It's just not sustainable.

- God's Leading - My heart's not in sign-making anymore. The Lord used my cancer diagnosis last year and a trip to Peru this summer to shift some priorities and lead me in a new direction. I'm now working full time at our local elementary school and am confident this is exactly where I need to be for this next season.
So THANK YOU. We will miss working with you and wish you and your family a wonderful Christmas season!

Working at our elementary school by day....carving signs by night.....this has been me this week and I'm almost done! And very tired. Pounding out the last few signs and hoping to ship them by Thursday.
Carving wood that isn't 100% flat is extremely time consuming.....I'm going to be brutally honest and say that I won't miss this process! Each sign is taking between 5-12 carving passes to adjust for the variation in wood depth. A sign that used to take me 45 minutes is now taking 3 hours. This is one of many reasons I'm calling this season over. 😉

As I reflect on the past 15 years of Rustic Pine Designs, I'm so thankful for YOU!
- You helped me turn a hobby into a business, supported new designs and ideas, and always came back for more.
- You allowed me to work for myself, enabling me to have flexible hours and stay home with my young children...this was the greatest gift!
So THANK YOU. And all glory to God, who lavished his kindness on our little endeavor, bringing all you to me and making Rustic Pine Designs possible and sustainable.

Brian and I got away to our cabin last week before the snow came...I'm still in awe of how beautiful our little refuge is no matter the season!

HAPPY NOVEMBER! After 15 years of making signs, we are officially bidding you farewell in December. Many factors play into this decision, and it is bittersweet to close this chapter in our family's story, even as we look forward to new things.
BUT - we can't say goodbye without opening our website one more time, and just in time for Christmas!

BUSINESS/LIFE UPDATE:
I am planning to close Rustic Pine Designs for good in December. Many of you know I've been struggling to find decent wood for the past few years, so that definitely plays into my decision. But I'm also working full time now, plus managing/cleaning our airbnb plus trying to make and market signs....and it's just too much! So I'll open for one last ordering window in November and then will be done.
I've so enjoyed working with all of you over the years! God definitely grew this little wood business and privided a way for me to stay home while our kids were small, and I'm SO THANKFUL for that!! But He has also made clear to me that it's time to move on and bring His light and hope to others. I'm excited for what He has in store!

As much as it pains me to admit it, summer is pretty much over. This week is grey and rainy for us, and my kids (and maybe me!) go back to school next week. Goodbye lazy days of glorious sunshine! 😭
As we all get back into a routine, mark your calendars for Sept 6! Our website will be open for a short time, then will close again. So plan ahead!

What a month it's been! I had the opportunity to go to the Amazon jungle in Peru (with my 16-yr-old son and a few others from our church) where we supported amazing missionaries and shared Jesus with kids, teens, and adults. A few highlights/takeaways:
🛶 Boat ride upriver to the native Shawi village of Oculiza - so beautiful!
😀 The joy on kids faces as we provided meals that they otherwise wouldn't have.
🙏 Seeing prayers answered all around us!
🎁 Renewed conviction that the good news of Jesus brings hope and freedom and is so needed everywhere.
⚽️ Watching my son play soccer barefoot and all the little boys following him around.
🇵🇪 Speaking Spanish again!
One post cannot begin to sum it up, and I've been taking my time jumping back into things here at home, trying to process and absorb what God is (still) teaching me through this experience. I loved it so much!

Our Story

We are a husband and wife team that is passionate about God, our family, and our work. Here are a few things that are important to us: QUALITY CUTENESS Yes, we know it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue! But we are committed to high-quality products that don't sacrifice "cute". As an engineer and avid woodworker, Brian oversees the structural soundess of all our pieces. Jen is an admitted font nerd and loves designing with letters and words. We love putting our unique finishing touches on products and you can be assured that everything is crafted with the utmost care! FAMILY Jen is a full-time mom to our 3 kids ages 6, 5 and 3. A busy stage in our lives! She is incredibly thankful for the opportunity to stay home with them. We live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and can often be found enjoying the outdoors (hiking, camping, canoeing, etc.). LATIN AMERICA We both have ties to Latin America and first met while working/volunteering at a local non-profit who does amazing work in Central America. More on them in a second. We are both committed to do our part in breaking the cycle of poverty however we can....and our hearts are in Latin America. AGROS INTERNATIONAL We have been involved with Agros for years....first separately, now as a couple, and hope to involve our children in the years to come. Their model of rural land ownership works - we've seen it firsthand in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua.
