A continuation of my memory vessel series, this piece captures moments spent with my grandma on my mom’s side. Some of my fondest memories of her were from when we went plein air painting Amish farms in southern Maryland and quilting in her home during hot summers.

My grandma loved wearing bright red shirts and flannels, and I always loved the way she captured clouds in her landscape work. An artist herself, she supported my education and career in the arts. I wanted to create this piece as an homage to her.

I’ve wanted to make this piece for two years now, and I am so grateful I was able to create it for my residency at Pittsburgh Glass Center ❤️ Thank you to everyone at PGC that helped me bring this to life ❤️

This piece was fired 9 times layered with Reusche low-fire enamels, and blown with glasscolor Reichenbach Old Pink Rose R-150 and Gaffer Apricot G-013 ❤️

This design has been living rent free in my sketchbooks for about 3 years and I was finally able to make it after learning how to create internal rings from the masters during my class at I am so excited to move onto coldworking it and creating the lampworked components for it. This dreamy milky colour is Gaffer Alabaster from Big shout out to and for the stellar assist and sweating through the creation of this one with me. Stay tuned for how it progresses!

CASTING PROCESS: Firing done. Time to demold these small colourful cast glass vessels Layla Walter

A small copper blue coloured vessel. Carved with Chatham Island forget-me-not, a plant endemic to Rēkohu (as the Chatham Islands are known in Moriori) or Wharekauri (Māori). Remote islands to the side of Aotearoa New Zealand. The flowers are blue, as bright and endemic as the raw material I use for casting - an innovation born of isolation and scientific genius by John Croucher and John Leggott of Gaffer Glass and tested by my mentor Ann Robinson. This particular colour is made with copper. Our raw material is available from Melt45
